Day 2 - Koblenz - Lorelei Rock - Rüdesheim
Where the Moselle meets the Rhine stands a towering monument to Wilhelm I, the man who unified the German Empire. This not only provides a poignant place to start your exploration of Koblenz today, but is also one of the best places to visit for views over this old city. An optional morning tour will take you from this landmark into the charming narrow lanes and delightful squares, recalling the city’s stories. If you prefer to explore independently, you might like to venture up to the magnificent Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. This architectural gem is Europe’s second largest fortress (after Gibraltar), originating from around AD 1000 and almost completely preserved. We take lunch back on MS Belvedere as we sail to Rüdesheim, gliding through the beautiful Rhine Valley and passing the legendary Lorelei Rock. We dock early this evening and remain in Rüdesheim overnight.
Day 3 - Rüdesheim - Mainz
This morning we have an included tour in the traditional town of Rüdesheim. Wine has played a part in this town since the Romans began growing grapes in the surrounding valleys. The ‘Winzerexpress’ mini-train will collect you straight from the ship and after a ride through the vineyards and the inner city of Rüdesheim, the mini-train will stop at a local winery. Learn all about winegrowing and enjoy an exclusive wine tasting session in a cosy, convivial atmosphere, after which there will be time to stroll through the nearby Drosselgasse - the cobbled street of historical buildings filled with traditional restaurants and pubs - or take the ‘Winzerexpress’ back to the ship. We return to MS Belvedere for our journey to Mainz this afternoon, where we dock overnight.
Day 4 - Mainz - Worms
After breakfast we go ashore for an included walking tour of Mainz. This 2,000-year old city has many historical buildings, monuments and museums to shed light on its story, including a Roman temple and royal palace. It was home to Johannes Gutenberg who, in the 15th century, revolutionised printing by creating a ground breaking printing machine which enabled the mass production of print. Our journey along the Rhine continues as we take lunch back on board. We reach Worms late this afternoon and dock overnight.
Day 5 - Worms
Day 6 Frankfurt - London
We disembark and transfer to Frankfurt airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Heathrow Airport. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
