For centuries, Venice has been considered one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. This ‘floating city’ of 118 islands is an engineering masterpiece, built on wooden stakes driven into the ground, divided by 170 boat canals and unified by 400 foot bridges. Around its most splendid squares stand magnificent palazzos - great marble palaces and churches with outstanding Venetian exteriors. Hiding in the quiet backstreets, the comparatively simple façades don’t prepare you for the priceless artwork within. After three nights in this city of grandeur, we journey back to London in the most luxurious of ways - aboard the magnificent Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Watch the beautiful views go by as you relax in your private cabin and enjoy sumptuous meals, in the carriages of the world’s most elegant, iconic train.
3 nights in hotels and 1 night on train (accommodation as specified or similar)

Day 2 Venice
This morning a local guide escorts us to a waterbus stop, for our journey to St Mark’s Square. This charming city has been shaped by a line of 120 doges over 1,100 years, and the imaginations of some of the finest architects and artists the world has ever seen. The great legacy that is St Mark’s Square earned its importance in AD 829 when St Mark’s remains were brought to Venice and laid in the great Basilica. This religious landmark was lavished with riches, hinted at in the grand arches and artwork we see from the square. We continue via Santa Maria Formosa Church, San Giovanni and Paolo Church and Marco Polo House, home of the remarkable Polo family, hidden amongst the confusing calli - Venice’s labyrinth of narrow alleys. The grand Rialto Bridge, the oldest of four bridges that span the Grand Canal, is our last stop, after which you are free to find lunch and continue exploring throughout the rest of the day. You will be issued with a 48-hour Venice pass for today, to allow unlimited travel on water and land buses for our guided tour and beyond. Maybe enter St Mark’s Basilica to discover more of its treasures.
Day 3 Venice
On this free day, you may wish to watch or be a part of the bustle on the Grand Canal, the main artery of the city, edged by magnificent 12th-17th century buildings; or get lost in the narrow passages that link one piazza to another. Visit the stunning and intricately detailed Doge’s Palace, the former residence of the Doge and the seat of the Venetian government, which doubled as the city courtroom and jail, and is now a public museum detailing the heritage and history of Venice. Or maybe make your way to Murano, a nearby island renowned for the beautiful glass creations made here by hand.
Day 4 Venice - Venice Simplon-Orient-Express
After a leisurely start to the day, we cross the canals by a private water taxi towards Santa Lucia Station, where we board the iconic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express for our overnight journey to London. After you have settled into your cabin, make your way to one of the elegant restaurant cars for a delicious three-course lunch. As the afternoon progresses, the beautiful scenery continues to change - starting with the Venetian lagoon and travelling north through Italy into the stunning Alps. And throughout this iconic journey you will be attentively looked after with exquisite service from your personal host. Tea and pastries will be brought to your cabin, ensuring you don’t go hungry before a four-course dinner is served in the restaurant cars these evening. After dinner, relax in one of the exquisite bars or retire directly to your cabin, which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom.

Day 5 London
Awake as our journey continues through France and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, served in your cabin at a time that suits you. On reaching Paris Gare du Nord this morning, you have a little time to disembark and stretch your legs along the platform before we proceed. As we travel on towards the French coast, brunch is available in the restaurant cars and, having travelled through the Eurotunnel by coach, the journey continues on the Belmond British Pullman carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express to London Victoria Station, with a traditional afternoon tea served with a glass of English sparkling wine.
