Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Verona. On arrival, we begin our journey into the Dolomites and our hotel, located in a wide snowy valley.
Hotel Sass Maor, Primiero San Martino di Castrozza (3-star)
We’ll make our way to the charming ancient city of Bolzano this morning. The city is markedly Tyrolean in atmosphere and home to Italy’s largest Christmas market. A guided tour will introduce us to the city including its medieval centre and this afternoon, you’ll have time to browse the Christmas market at your own pace. Listen to the sound of barrel organs, wander amongst 80 or more wooden stalls, laden with handcrafted toys and delicate glass decorations. Or take the opportunity to taste a warming glass of spiced glühwein and a delicious slice of cinnamon stollen bread.
Christmas Eve - Bassano del Grappa
Our morning begins with a drive to Bassano del Grappa, a river city that lies in the foothills of the surrounding peaks. We’ll take a guided walking tour through the city’s historic centre, taking in the Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza della Libertà - grand squares, surrounded by even grander buildings. We’ll also see the unusual wooden covered bridge spanning the river, originally designed in the 16th century. The town is known as the ‘capital of grappa’ and our tour concludes at the grappa distillery for a tasting. We’ll sip this unusual type of brandy, as well as some local prosecco. After time to explore further and maybe do some last-minute shopping at Bassano’s market, we’ll return to our hotel. For those who wish to attend midnight mass, the local church is just a stroll away.
Christmas Day - Primiero San Martino di Castrozza
Buon Natale! We’ll stretch our legs, joining our tour manager on an orientation tour of the local area. Then we’ll travel by coach to a picturesque mountain chalet for an Italian-style lunch. After we’ve had our fill, we’ll return to the hotel for a free afternoon. You might like to take a break from feasting with a stroll in the fresh mountain air.
Boxing Day - Belluno
The picture-postcard town of Belluno sits in the foothills of the Dolomites. It’s an attractive mix of Renaissance and Gothic buildings within a historic centre, all the while surrounded by views of jagged snow-capped mountains and forested hillsides. We’ll take a walking tour, with a guide who’ll give us an insight into the town’s history and highlights. Then there’ll be time to explore, or maybe do a spot of people watching from a café, as you warm up with a coffee or hot chocolate. We’ll return to the hotel later in the day.
