The Tribune Hotel, Rome (4-star)
Europe’s smallest city state is also one of its most religiously powerful, especially at this time of year. This morning, a guide will take us around Vatican City, taking in the Vatican Museum and the beautiful Renaissance-style St Peter’s Basilica. Its size and décor is bewildering. In the Sistine Chapel, you have the chance to gaze up at the Michelangelo’s iconic fresco depicting The Creation of Adam. After some free time, we’ll return to the hotel by coach.
Christmas Eve - Rome
Ancient Romans believed that whatever happened in the world, Rome will still be standing. Over two millennia later, we take a guided walking tour of this Eternal City to view the exterior remains of its ancient roots such as the Colosseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. We’ll also take a look at Rome’s Renaissance revival at Piazza Venezia, Piazza Navona, and the fabulous Trevi Fountain. This afternoon you have time at leisure in the Christmas market, or to take in more of the sights (some attractions may be closed). We’ll transfer back to our hotel mid-afternoon for a cocktail gathering.
Christmas Day - Rome
Buon Natale! Today is at leisure, so you can leave early if you want to find a spot in St Peter’s Square to see the Pope delivering his Christmas message from the Vatican balcony. Or watch it from the comfort of the hotel at noon, before a traditional Christmas lunch is served.
Boxing Day - Rome
Relax and see more of Rome at your leisure, or take an optional excursion to Castelli Romani this morning. Your guide will take you around this pretty area of ancient towns. Locals flock here in the summer to enjoy the local wine while looking out over verdant hills and volcanic lakes. In winter, you’ll be able to enjoy the narrow streets and pretty piazzas of Castel Gandolfo with a little more serenity. You’ll also take in Albano Lake and Frascati, to enjoy a local food and wine tasting.
Day 6 Rome - UK
We transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
