Charm of the Dolomites
8 days from £1,349 per person
The UNESCO-listed Dolomites are one of Europe’s better-kept secrets, where quaint villages jostle with historic spa towns - all against a backdrop of spectacular peaks and valleys. This is no Tuscany: the dramatic landscapes have a beauty all of their own. Our tour takes in the likes of Bolzano, Merano and Bressanone, where the blend of Italian, German and Austrian culture is apparent in local customs and cuisine. We’ll also get a taste for local life across the border in Innsbruck.

Vipiteno - Bressanone
Today we visit the pretty, Austrian-style village of Vipiteno, then continue to the charming village of Bressanone. It’s the oldest town in the area, with Roman lanes and Gothic townhouses. You’ll notice lots of German dishes on restaurant menus here - and you’re more likely to hear German spoken than Italian.
Scenic drive - Winery visit - Lago di Braies
This morning, we’ll set off on a leisurely drive along the winding mountain roads, with glorious summer views over meadowland and high-perched villages. Along the way, we’ll stop at a local winery to taste regional wines and some nibbles. Then, we’ll continue onwards to view the small but beautiful alpine lake of Lago di Braies, before returning to Rodengo.
Bolzano - Merano
We travel to the charming town of Bolzano. Step inside its fantastic Archaeological Museum, where you can see the 5,300-year-old ‘Ice Man’ found in the glaciers of the Alps. We move on to Merano, nicknamed the ‘City of Flowers’, where you’ll have free time to stroll along the riverside Passirio Promenade, explore the beautiful gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle and perhaps pop in to a local enoteca (wine bar) to sample the local white or red.
We drive to the pretty, mountain-backed city of Innsbruck for a guided walking tour that includes the baroque Cathedral of Saint Jakob and the Imperial Palace. There’s some free time to see the sights and admire the pastel-painted buildings, before returning to the hotel.
Today we visit the spa town of Trento, with its medieval and Renaissance centre, cathedral and Castello de Buonconsiglio.
Brunico - Ortisei
Our first stop today is Brunico, where you’ll have free time to explore and maybe visit the Ethnographic Museum. We then continue to Ortisei and enjoy a cable car ride over the Seisser Alm region, scattered with alpine meadows and wooden farmsteads.
