Day 2 Cruising River Elbe, Germany
Early afternoon we reach the River Elbe and begin a scenic cruise along this picture-perfect stretch of gently flowing water which connects the beautiful city of Hamburg to the mighty North Sea.
Day 3 Hamburg
Arrive in Germany’s historic principal port, Hamburg, where fascinating landmarks, vibrant neighbourhoods and magnificent squares are connected by 1,000 bridges spanning over numerous canals and waterways. Highlights include the 17th century Zollenbrücke Bridge, the oldest bridge of the city; the Rathaus, the magnificent City Hall and seat of government; and St Nicholas Church, an impressive Gothic Church serving as both an important landmark and memorial site.
Day 4 Kiel Canal Transit - Kiel
We cruise along the world’s busiest artificial waterway, the Kiel Canal, stretching almost 100km between the North Sea and the Baltic. We then arrive in the maritime city of Kiel. The town was extensively rebuilt after World War II, creating impressive modern structures that now dominate the streets. A few older monuments and structures still remain including the 13th century Nikolaikirche - the main church and oldest building in Kiel.
Day 5 Travemünde
Arrive in Travemünde, a tremendous port ideally located close to the major Hanseatic city of Lübeck. A true Baltic beauty, Lübeck is a UNESCO-listed town characterised by beautiful gabled houses, wonderful churches and magnificent towers. Travemünde isn’t just a gateway to Lübeck’s enthralling history, it is a desirable coastal resort perfect for admiring picturesque views from the delightful beach and is even home to the oldest lighthouse on the German Baltic coast.
Day 6 Warnemünde
This morning we arrive in Warnemünde, where you can relax on the beautiful sandy beaches and tuck into the finest, locally-caught seafood. Visit nearby Rostock and Berlin to explore magnificent German monuments including the Olympic Stadium, Brandenburg Gate - Berlin’s famous 18th century neoclassical monument - Charlottenburg Castle and Reichstag, a grand symbol of democracy built for the German Empire during the 19th century and once again home of the German parliament.
Day 7 Kiel Canal Transit
We voyage back along the Kiel Canal today.
Days 8-9 Cruising Weser River - Bremen (overnight)
This morning we sail along the picturesque Weser River before arriving in the treasured city of Bremen. Boudicca, unlike many other ships, sails directly through the heart of the city, capturing beautiful scenery before coming to a halt so we can step ashore and discover what the wonderful city of Bremen has to offer. Incredible Hanseatic Gothic architecture is most prevalent in the Market Square where the magnificent Town Hall - built in the early 15th century and home to 12 of the oldest wines in the world - can be found. Alternatively, you can experience the modern face of Bremen in the city’s former docklands, Überseestadt, home to an abundance of stylish bars, trendy cafés and upmarket restaurants lined in front on the yacht-filled marina and vibrant harbour. We dock overnight, giving plenty of time to explore before sailing in the evening of day 9.
