Discover the beauty and romance of the River Rhine in style, sailing through some of Europe’s most celebrated landscapes, passing vineyard-covered hills topped by fairy-tale castles and calling at historic cities in four countries. Beginning in the Swiss city of Basel, you will have time to explore Strasbourg, the charming capital of Alsace. Sailing downriver through Germany and the spectacular Rhine Gorge, lined with ruins of medieval castles and fortresses, we stop in Mannheim, Rüdesheim and Cologne, with a superb choice of included excursions along the way, before your ship reaches the end of its voyage in legendary Amsterdam.

Day 1 - London - Basel

Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Basel. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the port to embark your ship, the AmaSonata (5T) or AmaKristina (5T).

Day 2 - Breisach

You have two exciting excursions to choose from today. The first will take you back across the border for a walking tour of the pretty Alsatian town of Riquewihr, renowned for its historic architecture and Riesling wine, or you might enjoy a guided tour of Breisach and the nearby university city of Freiburg, visiting its medieval Münster, a Gothic cathedral famed for its elegant 116m-high spire.

Day 3 - Kehl (Strasbourg)

The attractive border city of Strasbourg is the capital of France’s Alsace region and after arriving in Kehl this morning, take a guided coach tour of Strasbourg’s sights, including the Parc de l’Orangerie, the town’s oldest park, the European Parliament and the Place de la République. Afterwards, enjoy a walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Old Town, known as Petite France, filled with pretty half-timbered houses. The remainder of the day is free before the ship departs tonight.

Day 4 - Mannheim - Rüdesheim

Today’s destination is Mannheim, where you can choose from one of three included excursions. Your first option is a half-day excursion to the charming university town of Heidelberg, with its magnificent castle, churches, old town squares, impressive university buildings and student gaol, whose walls are covered with graffiti and portraits etched by generations of Heidelberg students. Alternatively, follow the Philosopher's Walk to enjoy a panoramic view point of Heidelberg or join a guided tour of the historic city of Speyer, known for its cathedral, numerous churches and the medieval Altpörtel (Old Gate). Our cruise continues this afternoon to the pretty winemaking town of Rüdesheim, where we dock this evening and remain overnight. Enjoy a visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum, with its wonderful collection of music boxes and automated musical instruments, or alternatively you can enjoy some Rüdesheimer Coffee.

Day 5 - Rüdesheim - Koblenz

Today there is a choice of three excursions: a gondola ride above the town to see the grand Niederwalddenkmal monument, built to commemorate the 1870 Unification of Germany, and a wine tasting with a local vintner; take a guided bike ride along the Rhine; or a guided hike to Ehrenfel’s Castle. Later, we cruise through the beautiful Rhine Gorge, passing the Lorelei Rock, where legend tells of a water nymph luring fishermen to their doom, to Koblenz, to moor overnight. This evening we take a walk through the 2,000 year old city, possibly best known as home to the grand Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.

Day 6 - Koblenz - Cologne

We continue to one of Germany’s oldest cities, Cologne, whose origins go back to the days of the Roman Empire. Your guided tour this afternoon includes the Old Town, Cathedral Square, and the city’s majestic Gothic cathedral, one of the largest in Europe. Alternatively you can choose an excursion to explore Cologne on a bike tour or enjoy a Kolsch Beer and local specialities tasting. Later you will have free time to make your own discoveries, spend time in the shops or relax in one of the inviting local cafés.

Day 7 - Amsterdam

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic cruise through the canals of Amsterdam, taking in the distinctive tall and narrow merchants’ houses that line the water, the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), and the home of Anne Frank. Later, enjoy a guided city tour, taking in the Royal Palace and Westerkerk. Alternatively, take a walking tour of the Jordaan District, created in the early 17th century for the stream of political refugees. The monumental buildings are now homes for artists. You may also choose to visit the Jewish Quarter; although not much is left from the years of German occupation, the Portuguese Synagogue is still intact.
