After a morning at sea, we’ll begin cruising the picturesque Weser River as we head for Bremen. Along the way, take in views of fields, valleys and river beaches, and look out for Harrier Sand - one of Europe’s longest river islands.
Day 3 - Bremen
Spend today exploring this attractive Hanseatic city. A stroll around the Schnoor quarter - the oldest part of the city - reveals grand Gothic architecture and narrow timber buildings. The 15th century Town Hall is a must-see. Inside, you’ll find a restaurant with original Hanseatic-era décor, an exhibition of intricate model ships and a wine display featuring 12 of the oldest wines in the world. For something a little more modern, head for Überseestadt, the former docklands. Set around a pretty harbour, it’s home to trendy bars, cafés and restaurants.
Day 4 - Kiel Canal Transit
Our route to Warnemünde takes us along the Kiel Canal, a 61-mile-long engineering marvel that cuts a path between the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Enjoy the views as we sail through the German countryside, passing quaint villages and towns and cruising under a series of impressive bridges.
Day 5 - Warnemünde
This lovely seaside town is home to one of Germany’s best beaches. Go for a walk along the white sands, see the quaint cottages in the old river district or enjoy views across the water from the 19th century lighthouse. You’re also in easy reach of Rostock, another Hanseatic city packed with gabled houses and spired churches. We depart mid-afternoon, sailing back along the Kiel Canal overnight.
Day 6 - Kiel Canal Transit - Cruising Elbe River - Hamburg
This morning, enjoy a scenic journey along the Lower Elbe towards Hamburg. You’ll have the afternoon and evening to explore this vibrant city. There’s more Hanseatic-era architecture to admire, as well as a fascinating maritime heritage to uncover. Highlights here include the towering St Nikolai Church, the UNESCO-listed Kontorhaus district and the lively waterfront area. For views of the city’s striking skyline, you could opt for a boat trip on beautiful Alster Lake.
