Days 2-3 - Cruising the river Seine - Rouen, France (overnight)
Cruising the river Seine - Rouen (overnight). We arrive in Rouen this morning, where we stay two nights. The capital of Upper Normandy, Rouen is a city with a rich and fascinating history. Don’t miss the stunning Gothic cathedral - a favourite subject for the Impressionist Claude Monet - which features the tallest church spire in France (151m) and a number of royal tombs, including one holding the heart of Richard the Lionheart. You could also explore the city's botanical garden, the Jardin des Plantes de Rouen, which contains more than 600 plant species.
Day 4 - Rouen - cruising the River Seine - Honfleur
We bid farewell to Rouen this morning and set sail down the River Seine. Sit back and watch the lovely Normandy countryside go by as we follow its winding course towards the English Channel. We arrive later in Honfleur, an attractive little seaport on the coast of Normandy. Painters including Monet and Courbet found inspiration here, and its picturesque harbour, narrow, half-timbered houses and cobbled streets present an enchanting, old world atmosphere. Visit the wooden 15th century St Catherine’s Church or the Maisons Satie, dedicated to the 19th century composer, or take a trip further afield to Monet’s famous gardens at Giverny.
Day 5 - At sea
Relax on board today, perhaps taking a dip in the pool or meeting up with friends in one of the lounges.
Days 6-7 - Cruising the Gironde and Garonne River - Bordeaux (overnight)
Today we sail into Western Europe’s largest estuary, the Gironde, meeting the River Garonne, which flows through beautiful French countryside, including a number of famous vineyards in the Entre-deux-Mers peninsula and the Medoc region. We arrive in Bordeaux, the ‘world capital of wine’, for a two-night stay. Wander along the boutique-lined Rue Sainte-Catherine - said to be Europe’s longest pedestrian street, with a length of 1.2km, and perhaps sample a glass of the local wine at a convivial pavement café. Or explore the grandiose Place des Quinconces, one of the continent’s largest city squares, or view the collection of Old Masters at the Musée des Beaux Arts.
Day 8 - Bordeaux - Cruising the Gironde and Garonne River
We sail back through the Gironde and Garonne Rivers, as we make our way back to the ocean.
Day 9 - At sea
Enjoy your final day at sea, perhaps unwinding in the spa with a relaxing massage or settling back with a good book in the comfortable library.
Day 10 Southampton
