Visit the National Museum, filled with displays chronicling Iceland’s history from the days of its first Viking inhabitants and the monumental church, the Halgrimskirkja. Outside the city, you can immerse yourself in the warm mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa or explore Thingvellir National Park, site of Iceland’s first parliament, or Althing, in 930, and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We leave Reykjavik tonight.

Day 5 At sea

Day 6 Cruising Prins Christiansund - Torssukatak

This evening we cruise through the still, glass-like waters of Prins Christiansund, a sound separating mainland Greenland from the island of Sangmissoq and other islands of the Cape Farewell Archipelago. We continue through the incredible Torssukatak Fjord, home to the famous Thumbnail cliff - said to be one of the highest sea cliffs on earth.

Day 7 Narsarsuaq - cruising Tunugdliarfik Fjord

Narsarsuaq is one of Greenland’s most popular tourist destinations, and is home to diverse wildlife, vast fjords and incredible glaciers, such as the stunning Narsarsuaq Glacier, an impressive frozen formation that grows out of Greenland’s sheet ice. We carry on to Tunugdliarfik Fjord, with its picturesque traditional settlements and snow-topped mountain peaks, and you may spot seals and whales on a scenic cruise through this incredible natural wonder.

Day 8 Qaqortoq - cruising Lichtenau Fjord

This morning we arrive in the town of Qaqortoq, founded by Norwegian traders in 1775. Explore the town centre, with its brightly painted houses, calling into the wooden Church of Our Saviour, dating from 1832 and the museum, dedicated to the history of the region’s early Norse inhabitants. We leave this afternoon and enjoy a scenic cruise through Lichtenau Fjord. On either side of the fjord lie two of Greenland’s oldest settlements: the historic ruins of Alluitsoq which was founded in 1774, and the tiny town of Ammassivik. Ship to shore tender service.

Day 9 Cruising Tasermiut Fjord - Nanortalik

We sail through the magnificent Tasermiut Fjord, a haven for all kinds of Arctic wildlife, before arriving in the town of Nanortalik, which sits on a small island at the end of a beautiful fjord, surrounded by glorious snow-covered mountains. Polar bears live and hunt on the sea ice close to the town and are often seen from the shores of Nanortalik, while seals and whales can also be spotted in the surrounding waters. Ship to shore tender service.

Day 11 Tasiilaq - Cruising Ammassalik Fjord

An early morning arrival in Tasiilaq, set in a stunning location within a fjord and surrounded by towering mountains. The largest town in eastern Greenland, Tasiilaq is home to just 2,000 people. Take a walk through the charming town centre with its colourful houses, and visit the little museum, which houses displays on local history and culture, including a collection of traditional masks. You could also take a short boat ride across the fjord to the Flower Valley and see the beautiful Kiattut Glacier.
