Day 1 - London Tilbury
At London Tilbury Port, embark Magellan (3T) in preparation for an afternoon sailing.
Day 2 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands
We arrive in the Dutch capital this morning, famous for its extensive canals and many fine museums. View the vast collection of works on show at the Van Gogh Museum and the priceless treasures of the Rijksmuseum, take in sights such as the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), the Ann Frank House and the Royal Palace on Dam Square or enjoy a stroll through the Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s largest park. We sail this afternoon.
Day 3 - Hamburg, Germany (overnight)
Magellan docks in Germany’s second-largest city, Hamburg, this afternoon, for an overnight stay. There is plenty to see and do in this busy, cosmopolitan city. Perhaps visit Miniatur Wunderland, the world’s biggest model railway system, featuring extraordinarily detailed dioramas of European cities and landscapes. Take in sights such as the grand 19th century Town Hall and the baroque St Michael’s Church and explore the art collections at the Kunsthalle Hamburg, which houses works by Rembrandt, Gaugin, Monet and Picasso amongst others.
Day 4 - Hamburg
There’s more time in Hamburg today. You might like to browse the shops along The Colonnaden, a stylish pedestrianised shopping street, or just relax in Hamburg’s ‘green heart’ - the attractive city-centre park known as Planten un Blomen. We depart this afternoon.
Day 5 - At sea
Indulge in a relaxing massage in Magellan’s Wellness Centre or take a dip in one of the pools as we spend the day at sea.
Day 6 - Copenhagen, Denmark (overnight)
This afternoon we dock in the delightful Danish capital, Copenhagen. You might like to spend the day in Tivoli Gardens, the world’s oldest amusement park, featuring a vintage fun-fair, lakes, fountains, live bands and dozens of restaurants, pay a visit to the Little Mermaid statue or take a wander around the waterfront Nyhavn district, with its colourful old buildings and excellent restaurants. We stay overnight in Copenhagen.
Day 7 - Copenhagen
Another full day to explore and enjoy wonderful Copenhagen. Watch the Changing of the Guards outside Amalienborg Palace, official residence of Denmark’s Queen, discover the treasures of the National Museum, visit the Renaissance Rosenborg Castle or head out of the city to Denmark’s most famous castle, Kronborg, better known as Shakespeare’s Elsinore. We leave this evening.
Day 8 - Aalborg
We cross to the Danish region of North Jutland this morning, and the charming university city of Aalborg. From your ship you will have a perfect view of the distinctive Utzon Centre, created by Jørn Utzon, the architect who designed the Sydney Opera House. There are regular exhibitions on Danish design here. The Waterfront quarter, alongside the Limfjord, is a pleasant place for a stroll, or you might like to visit Aalborg’s Historical Museum, the 14th century Cathedral of St Budolfi or the Franciscan Monastery ruins, preserved in a subterranean museum under one of the city’s busiest shopping streets. We leave this afternoon.
