Day 2 - Antwerp, Belgium
Antwerp, one of Belgium’s thriving cities, is famed for its diamond district and the enchanting cobbled streets of its medieval heart. As well as the riverside fortress, the elaborate cathedral containing major art works, and the many other places you can admire pieces by painter Pieter Paul Rubens, today you’ll experience Antwerp’s wonderful winter festivities, starting with the Christmas market of around 100 enticing stalls selling traditional crafts and gifts, hot drinks and snacks. Be sure to sample some of the country’s traditional desserts and treats including the chocolate Christmas log called ‘Kerststronk’, gingerbread and ‘mokjes’, cookies baked in the shape of letters. Wander the streets admiring the magical decorations and sparkling lights, a huge Christmas tree, a grand ice skating rink by the river, and an impressive Ferris Wheel where you can appreciate breathtaking views over the city.
Day 3 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands
In the festive period, the Dutch capital transforms into a romantic winter wonderland with beautiful tree-lined canals filled with twinkling lights and a sparkling ice rink. Visit the Museum Quarter, where the park is converted into Amsterdam’s very own Christmas Village, and daily entertainment includes festive music, choirs and dance performances. The Christmas market is full of wooden stalls selling crafts and traditional wares, tasty treats including mouthwatering ‘oliebollen’, hot chocolate and delicious mulled wine - all of which are bound to get you in the Christmas spirit! A focal point is the gigantic brightly-illuminated Christmas tree, standing in front of the Royal Palace on Dam Square, still used by the Dutch Royal House. It is at the centre of many other city sights, within walking distance of Anne Frank House, and the houses and museums of world-revered artists.
