  • Larnaca

After a leisurely start, we head to Larnaca for a guided tour. The city was built on Phoenician ruins, and you can still get a taste of ancient life here. We begin at one of the most important holy places for Muslims - Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque. This monument to the Prophet Mohammed’s aunt sits in a beautiful lakeside location. We also follow in the steps of St Lazarus, whom Jesus resurrected from the dead. We visit the salt lake which he is said to have created, where flamingos flock to in the wetter winter months; and return to Larnaca to visit the magnificent church of St Lazarus, built over his tomb. From here you can stroll along the beautiful palm-lined promenade, or watch the boats go by from a pavement café. Our journey back to Protaras takes us through Achna, one of the Red Soil Villages where much of the local produce is grown.

  • Protaras

Protaras sits within easy reach of several of Cyprus’ best beaches - a good excuse to spend some of your free day relaxing! The selection of shops, restaurants and cafés make it easy to explore and enjoy the town, or you can find a boat trip departing from a small, local harbour.

  • Protaras

We fill today with a tour of Cyprus. Our first stop is the beautiful village of Lefkara, where you may spot women working on fine embroidery in the narrow village streets, or treat yourself to a silver memento, forged into fine filigree by a skilled silversmith. The Bee and Embroidery museum in Kato Drys contains hundreds of antique items from furniture to farming equipment, offering an insight into old Cypriot culture. Discover how homemade products were created, with exhibitions on embroidery and bee keeping. After a light lunch in a traditional taverna, we head to Skarinou, where we watch a halloumi cheese demonstration, with a tasting, and visit a donkey farm. Cyprus donkeys were the primary mode of transport on the island for centuries, and invaluable in traditional methods of making olive oil and wine. The farm accommodates around 200 donkeys, plus a winery, an ancient olive press and a museum to traditional Cypriot professions. Before you leave, why not indulge yourself with some traditional products, oils and spirits, or maybe some lotions made from pure donkey milk.

  • Protaras

Enjoy a free day in Protaras, or jump aboard an optional excursion to the east coast. The excursion allows you to take in views of eerily empty Varosha, a town abandoned in 1974 when the Turks invaded, and visit the ancient district of Famagusta. The Gothic Cathedral of St Nicholas was inspired by Notre Dame in Paris; while Othello Castle inspired Shakespeare while writing his tragedy set in a sea port in Cyprus. Finally, visit one of the greatest commercial centres of the eastern Roman Empire - Salamis. It was the capital of Cyprus in 1100 BC, and destroyed by Arab invaders in 648 BC, never to be rebuilt.

  • Protaras

Relax at your leisure or take an optional excursion to Nicosia (or Lefkosia, as it's officially known). It is Europe’s last divided capital, with a restricted zone separating Greek and Turkish Cyprus controlled by the United Nations. Firstly, visit the Cyprus Archaeological Museum, which displays artefacts from all over the island. Then head through the old city gates to find a fascinating mix of ethnic Cypriot life and the crumbling remains of buildings abandoned in the summer of 1974. While exploring, you feel that little has changed here since then. Visit prominent landmarks in North Nicosia such as the Great Inn, the largest caravanserai in Cyprus, and the fascinating Slimiye Mosque, which was adapted from a 13th century church and reoriented to align with Mecca. This evening, we head to a traditional Cypriot taverna. Situated well off the tourist trail, we get a true taste of typical Cypriot cuisine - over 20 delicious dishes will be laid out for you to sample - while the beer and local wine flows freely, and local musicians entertain. The island is renowned for its traditional meze - small dishes that include a huge variety of tasty treats - so you’ll experience a real flavour of the area.

  • Protaras

Spend your last day exploring Protaras as you please. There are some lovely long nature trails you can follow, and some enchanting villages nearby.
