Day 3 - St Malo, France
Arrive in St Malo, at the mouth of the River Rance. The walled city of St Malo was originally a fortified island, but it is now part of the mainland and a magnificent grey granite citadel protects the old city, the cobbled streets of which are packed with interesting shops, restaurants, bars and cafés. The main gate of Porte St-Vincent encloses a castle and museum. From the beach it is possible to walk at low tide to the small island of Grand-Bé. Ship to shore tender service.
Day 4 - Cruising River Seine - Rouen (overnight)
Today we sail along the beautiful River Seine, a waterway stretching over 777 kilometres. Admire the lush green countryside, picturesque scenery and glimpses of the historic cities of Honfleur and Rouen. Late this afternoon Black Watch arrives in the ‘museum city’ of Rouen, in preparation for our full day at leisure here tomorrow.
Day 5 - Rouen
Wake up in the 2,000-year old city of Rouen, to enjoy a full day exploring. Rouen features many monuments and museums, streets of half-timbered houses and the infamous spot where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. The city’s Gothic Cathedral soars over the well-preserved medieval Old Town, with grand historical structures, including the Churches of St-Maclou and St Ouen, considered to be two of the best examples of French Gothic architecture. A highlight of the city is the magnificent botanical gardens, Jardin de Plantes de Rouen, with 600 plant species flourishing in its three unique gardens: rose garden, rock garden and medicinal garden.
Day 6 - Honfleur
Arrive in the picturesque little port of Honfleur, another of France’s beautiful historic cities and one which has long inspired painters and poets. Explore the Vieux Basin (Old Dock) with cobblestone streets, and timber and slate houses that overlook the fishing harbour. Visit the intriguing 15th century wooden St Catherine Church, and the enchanting Notre Dame de Grâce.
Day 7 - St Peter Port, Guernsey
This morning we arrive in Guernsey’s picturesque town and the oldest settlement in the Channel Islands. As Guernsey’s capital, St Peter Port has a lot to offer with its vibrant town showcasing Georgian and Regency architecture, pretty terraces, grand gardens, trendy boutiques and numerous charming cafés.
