Innsbruck

We head to Innsbruck for a guided walking tour. During under the Habsburg dynasty of the 14th century, the city reached the height of its cultural and political importance. In the heart of Innsbruck stand the beautiful Baroque Cathedral of St Jacob, and the former residence of the Tirolean sovereigns. This 500-year-old building is famous for its Golden Roof. Today, the thousands of copper tiles will glow with the reflection of Christmas tree lights. The square before it, which once held medieval tournaments, is full of stalls selling Christmas ornaments and winter treats - one of several Christmas markets in Innsbruck. Entrance is included to the regal Hofburg Palace. A beautiful Rococo-style hall, ceiling frescoes, valuable pictures and tapestries are on display. We continue to Bergisel Ski Jump, which stands majestically above Innsbruck. An architectural masterpiece, the jump offers a magnificent 360-degree panorama of the Inn valley, the Alps and Innsbruck itself. We reach the top by funicular and a lift to the panoramic terrace.

Tyrolean Mountains

Today we explore the region of the Wetterstein Mountains visiting Seefeld, an elegant country resort. We continue through the gap town of Mittenwald to Garmisch situated on the edge of the Bavarian Alps. The old parish church stands on the left bank of the Loisach in the picturesque district where chalets have been carefully preserved. The wooded foothills of the Ammergau Alps, from which the Kofel peak rises, surround the attractive little towns of Ettal and Oberammergau with their painted houses. Oberammergau is also famed for its Passion Play, performed by the inhabitants of the village every ten years.

Christmas Eve - Kirchberg - Kitzbühel

Enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride - a wonderfully relaxing way to take in the scenery as you cross Kirchberg and its surroundings, listening to the rhythm of the horses’ hooves, the happy bustle of the village on Christmas Eve, and the quietness of the countryside. We then explore the medieval town of Kitzbühel. Once a silver mining centre, it is now considered one of Europe’s most beautiful ski towns. Inside the heavily buttressed city walls, the pedestrianised centre is decorated with frescoes, lit with Christmas illuminations. The town is probably best known for the Hahnenkamm. The mountain holds a competition each January, where skiers reach up to 85mph as they descend the 85° slope. We take the Hahnenkamm cable car to appreciate the stunning views across the Kitzbühel Alps, and descend to enjoy time at the Christmas market. Back at the hotel, enjoy a drink before a four-course Gala Christmas dinner this evening.

Christmas Day - Kirchberg

Enjoy a leisurely Christmas morning before meeting fellow guests for a drink, while the staff add the finishing touches to our traditional Christmas lunch. Later, we take a walk by torchlight, which gives a warming glow to the village and its surrounds. A buffet dinner is provided this evening, accompanied by local folk music.

Boxing Day - Kirchberg

Today is at leisure. This could be your opportunity to weave your way down a ski slope, or take a gentle walk and warm up with a hot chocolate.
