Albania tour holidays
Albania is one of southern Europe’s loveliest surprises. For years it’s been overlooked by all but the most adventurous of travellers – but people are slowly opening their eyes to its numerous charms. There are medieval towns and Roman ruins to discover, Ottoman architecture to admire and a rich culture to soak up. As for the scenery, it’s varied to say the least – you can expect dramatic mountains, lakes, wildflower fields and a golden sandy coastline. Look out for vineyards, too – Albania is one of Europe’s oldest wine-making areas.
Capital city Tirana offers a mix of tree-lined boulevards, colourful buildings and buzzing cafés. Further south is Berat. It’s nicknamed the ‘town of a thousand windows’ for its neighbourhood of elegant Ottoman houses – they spill down the hillside between the 13th-century castle and the Osum River. Cultural Shkodra, home to Albania’s oldest fortress, is another highlight.
Why visit Albania with Titan?
Albania is still fairly new to tourism, so an escorted tour is a great way to see its highlights. Our itinerary has been meticulously planned, tested and refined, so we can be sure we’re showing you the best parts of this hidden gem of a country. We combine Albania with time in neighbouring North Macedonia – another beautiful (yet underrated) destination.
Public transport is notoriously sporadic, so travelling by coach allows us to explore on our own timeframe. And having a Titan tour manager with you throughout the trip means you don’t need to worry about the whens, wheres and hows – it’s all taken care of for you.
EHIC/GHIC - Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is being replaced by the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). UK-issued EHICs are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU. Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC and you can apply online. You should beware of unofficial websites that may charge if you apply through them. An EHIC or GHIC is free of charge.
Either card lets you get medically necessary state healthcare in Europe at a reduced cost or sometimes free of charge, however it isn’t a replacement for travel insurance, you should have both before you travel. Some European countries don’t accept either card (including the Channel Islands of Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland).
