Denpasar - Ubud
Upon arrival in Denpasar, we transfer to the Komaneka Rasa Sayang Hotel Ubud (4T) and dinner is included tonight with the accompaniment of traditional Balinese dancers.
Day 3
Ubud
Early this morning, we meet a local chef who takes us to a traditional food market to learn about regional Indonesian cuisines and observe the daily trade of exotic fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. We take a tour of the rice paddies on our journey to a traditional Balinese kitchen, where we learn time honoured techniques of Balinese cooking. After lunch, discover the many charms of Ubud as you visit the Agung Rai Museum of Art and the Sacred Monkey Forest.
Day 4
Gunung Kawi - Tirta Empul - Mount Batur
We visit Gunung Kawi, where 10 ancient shrines are carved into the rock face some 300 steps down. These monuments are thought to be the resting place of King Anak Wungsu, his wives and concubines. We then visit Tirta Empul, a holy spring where Hindus come annually for purification, and Kintamani, a spectacular region with the island’s most active volcano, Mount Batur, at its centre.
Day 5
Ubud - Sanur
Appreciate Bali’s central highlands as we drive to the stunning Royal Temple of Mengwi, surrounded by a moat with multi-roofed meru shrines and intricately carved wooden gates. We then visit Bedugal Market, where you can try exotic fruit or find souvenirs before we continue to Lake Bratan. Set on an island is Ulun Danu temple, one of Bali’s most iconic sites. We have a traditional Balinese lunch before heading to the rice fields of Jatiluwih, to learn about the subak style of rice production. We check in to the Maya Sanur Resort & Spa (5T) for three nights.
Day 6-7
Sanur
Enjoy two days at leisure in the beachside town. Optional excursions are available: to Denpasar, the Bali Museum and the war museum at Bajra Sandhi; or a tour of Uluwatu including a dramatic Kecak performance at the temple.
Day 8 - Sanur - Benoa
Today we depart for Benoa, Bali’s main port, where we board the striking Star Clipper (4T) and settle in before sailing this evening.
Day 9 - At sea
Day 10 - Giligenteng Island
The small island of Giligenteng holds four peaceful little fishing villages, where everybody knows each other. Bringsang consists of one small street, a mosque and a few local shops. There are no tourist attractions but this authentic village gives an insight into the everyday life of this little community. The atmosphere is one of quiet content and the people are remarkably friendly. The beach here is really beautiful with clear water and pristine white sand.
Day 11 - Probolinggo, Java
The port town of Probolinggo is a gateway to the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, with incredible landscape created by Mount Semeru and Gunung Bromo volcanoes, which still emit smoke today. The area in and around the park is inhabited by the Tenggerese, an ethnic minority, and one of the few remaining Hindu communities on the island of Java.
Day 12 - Lovina Beach, Bali
A 12km string of coastal villages collectively form the low-key, sun-drenched beach resort of Lovina. Its black sandy beaches are quite lovely, the sea is very calm here and colourfully decorated traditional outriggers called perahu dot the shoreline, completing the area’s tranquil beauty. A boardwalk links small family-run refreshment stalls and art shops.
Day 13 - Senggigi, Lombok
Senggigi is Lombok's traditional tourist resort. The large sandy bay is one of the busier places on the island and one of the most amazing sights at sunset.
Day 14 - Gili Sudak
This is the perfect island getaway with fine white sand, coral reefs and clear turquoise waters teeming with colourful tropical fish and starfish. The small resort offers facilities and shade. From here the ship’s zodiac can take you to Gili Kadiz, a great snorkelling site.
Day 15
Benoa, Bali - Denpasar - In flight
We disembark this morning in Benoa and transfer to the Hilton Garden Inn at Ngurah Rai International Airport. There will be time to relax with access to a day room, before we make the short walk to the airport for our return flight to the UK.
