Day 2 - Cape Town, South Africa (overnight)
Arrive in Cape Town this morning, where you will be met by Voyages to Antiquity representative and transferred to embark Aegean Odyssey (4T), where you’ll have time to settle into your cabin before dinner this evening. We remain docked in Cape Town for three nights.
Day 3 - Cape Town (overnight)
Cape Town is crowned by the spectacular Table Mountain National Park; and today we enjoy a cable car journey to the top. Take in views over the city and surrounding landscapes, before a delightful orientation tour to see the historic houses of the Malay Quarter and a collection of key structures including St George’s Cathedral and the Castle of Good Hope.
Day 4 - Cape Town (overnight)
After breakfast, enjoy a tour to the great Stellenbosch Wine estates, located in a fertile valley of the picturesque Eerste River, with a tasting and time learning of the interesting wine-making process. Enjoy a sightseeing drive through Stellenbosch’s characteristic town featuring Dutch-style architecture and picturesque oak tree-lined streets - we’ll stop for a visit to the museum, which showcases four houses from different eras of the town’s history.
Day 5 - Cape Town
Spend your last day in Cape Town exploring independently, or join an optional excursion to the Cape Peninsula, spending time at Cape Point, and then visiting the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, before travelling through the naval base of Simon’s Town to Fish Hoek. We sail early evening.
Day 6 - At sea
Day 7 - Luderitz, Namibia
Visit Namibia’s ghost town, Kolmanskop. In 1908, railway worker Zacharias Lewala spread the word that he’d found a diamond, resulting in floods of hopeful fortune seekers arriving in the area. By 1920, Kolmanskop had become a vast town equipped with multiple amenities for the workers, however with the diamond-field falling into decline after World War I, the town was abandoned. Discover this once-flourishing land’s crumbling ruins, now being reclaimed by desert sands.
Day 8 - At sea
Day 9 - Walvis Bay (overnight)
The incredible Namib Desert, a vast expanse of almost entirely barren land, is believed to be the world’s oldest desert. You have a choice of two exciting excursions from Walvis Bay today; on the first you’ll embark on an off-road discovery of Sandwich Harbour, climbing over the giant sand dunes of Namib-Naukluft Park in 4WD vehicles, to see breathtaking scenes like Sandwich Harbour Lagoon. Or, take in the red dunes of Namib Naukluft Park, and see the prehistoric Welwitschia Mirablis plant, unique to Namibia, before heading to Swakopmund, the country's biggest coastal town, with German origins and Art Nouveau architecture.
Day 10 - Walvis Bay
Day at leisure, or embark on an optional cruise of the calm waters of Walvis Bay Lagoon, home to spectacular marine and bird life including pelicans, cormorants and petrels. The boat continues to Pelican Point, home to a large, inquisitive seal colony and schools of dolphins - the perfect place for nature enthusiasts.
Days 11-12 - At sea
Day 13 - Luanda, Angola
Embark on an afternoon city tour of Luanda, discovering the incredible Palácio de Ferro, designed by architect Gustav Eiffel, and Fortaleza de Sao Miguel, built in 1576 to guard the bay from the French, Spanish and Dutch forces. The city was under colonial rule until November 11, 1975, the end of a 27-year war. Its resources of oil and diamonds have transformed this city.
Days 14-15 - At sea
Day 16 - Bom Bom Island, Sao Tome and Principe
Arrive in Bom Bom Island, a beautiful area for rainforest treks spotting colourful bird life, snorkelling and driving. Relax at leisure and enjoy a beach party here today.
Days 17-23 - At sea
Day 24 - Praia, Santiago Island, Cape Verde
Discover the beauty of Santiago on today’s included tour with time at the village of Saint Domingos, where traditional arts and crafts thrive, and the stunning Botanical Gardens at Sao Jorge dos Orgaos, containing several endangered plants. Or, join a tour exploring the Cape Verde Islands including the capital city Praia and historic town of Velha, to learn more about the nation‘s history and traditions.
Days 25-27 - At sea
Day 28 - Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain
Arrive in sun-soaked Las Palmas this morning for a tour of the sites of Gran Canaria including the extinct volcanic crater of Bandama, the village of Teror, and the culturally important town of Arucas to see the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, and the Marquise’s Palace and Gardens, one of the most beautiful parks on the island.
Day 29 - At sea
Agadir - Marrakech, Morocco
Embark on an excursion to Taroudant, Morocco’s splendid old trading centre known for its medieval souks, historic squares, protective red-mud walls, and flourishing citrus groves, with the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains beckoning beyond. Keep an eye out for the tree-climbing goats on the drive here! This afternoon we make our way to Marrakech to check in to our hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 31 - Marrakech - Casablanca
Enjoy sightseeing in Marrakech this morning. A guided tour takes you through the vibrant city’s old medina and interesting quarters leading to labyrinthine alleyways providing views of mosques, hammams and historic fountains carved in wood. At colourful souks, snake charmers sit amongst market traders who are organised into sections by their wares. You’ll also visit the Majorelle Garden, a 12-acre botanical garden, and its museum housing North African crafts. Later, drive to Casablanca to re-join Aegean Odyssey.
Day 32 - Tangier
This afternoon we dock in Tangier, renowned for its unique blend of cultures after spending decades as an international zone, governed not by Morocco but a mix of European powers. A tour takes in highlights including Cape Spartel Lighthouse, Mendoubia Park, the towering Grand Mosque, and the bustling medina, where tiny streets are filled with shops of trinkets and treats.
Day 33 Málaga - UK
Disembark and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
