Garden Route South Africa
Along the south eastern coast of Africa stretches a verdant mix of forests and wetlands with stunningly scenic lakes and lagoons. Tsitsikamma National Park is one of the most popular highlights of the Garden Route. Be sure to visit Strandloper Cave and take the opportunity to snap some magical photographs from the suspension bridge.
Knysna is one of the stunning towns along the Garden Route, featured in Titan’s fantastic The Best of South Africa tour. The beautiful natural harbour never ceases to astonish visitors. Once used as a key port to export timber, Knysna Quays is now the perfect place to savour some of the finest seafood while watching boats sailing across the lagoon. Titan travellers can also visit the fabulous Featherbed Nature Reserve, where birds and small mammals flourish amongst indigenous forests. Visitors are treated to a cruise on the Knysna Lagoon by the Knysna Heads, a spectacular landmark along the coast. You might be lucky enough to spot brightly coloured lories, dolphins and migrating whales.
George is a another charming town located on a 10 km plateau with the Outeniqua Mountains to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south. Travellers love exploring the tranquil streets of George, soaking up the sun and atmosphere, before paying a visit to the iconic Slave Tree, an ancient English Oak planted by Landdrost Van Kervel in the 19th century, which has a large lock and chain embedded in its trunk and has been declared a national monument.
Famous for having the world’s largest ostrich population, the town of Oudtshoorn and the surrounding area have an abundance of attractions. The limestone formations of the Cango Caves are a thrilling spectacle to behold. Remember to pick up a bottle or two of the wine produced in the area - it’s amongst the finest in South Africa.
