Food is the common ground, a universal experience loved by all. And we share a few of our favourites from some of the European destinations we travel to.

Switzerland

In Switzerland you’ll be able to ride on one of the world’s most spectacular train tracks – the Bernina Express. Wander pretty mountain towns and devour decadent food. If you're a foodie, Switzerland is the place for you. From creamy and sweet Swiss chocolate, to gooey, moreish cheese, you’ll be glad of the walking! Swiss cheese is popular, and you can enjoy it in a fondue or raclette, served with potatoes, ham or fish as well as boiled eggs. Rösti, which is a type of potato pancake, is also worth a try.

Germany

On our holidays to Germany, you’ll be captivated by pretty timber-framed towns, majestic fairytale castles, sweeping valleys, mountain ranges and cosmopolitan cities. We’ll sail the Rhine, the Elbe and the Moselle, and stop off at fascinating cities including Berlin and Dresden. We’ll sip fruity Reislings and taste traditional German cuisine including spatzle, pasta, Leberkase, traditional German sausage loaf, currywurst and pretzels.

Italy

Our escorted tours to Italy really offer a taste of excellence. We visit the elegant and colourful resorts along the Amalfi Coast, we wander medieval streets and relax in bustling piazzas, we discover some of the world’s most ancient treasures, and drink in views across the glistening Italian Lakes, as well enjoy scenic rail journeys and wine tasting. There are several iconic dishes from Italy – the home to pasta, pizza, risotto and focaccia. With so many different types of dishes from meat, seafood, it would be impossible to feast on them all, however, save room for authentic Italian gelato, too.

Greece

Our escorted tours explore a wealth of wonderful destinations in Greece where you can enjoy glorious scenery, amazing food, and a warm welcome. We’ll head to dreamy villages nestled in the mountains of Crete. Wander ancient streets of the Old Town in Rhodes. Feel inspired by Symi’s architecture and pretty waterfront houses. Or gaze upon the vistas across cypress-dotted hills in Corfu. Food is a huge part of Greek culture and one of the most popular Greek dishes is souvlaki made with marinated pork or lamb served in a grilled pitta. Another dish is dolmades, which are grape leaves wrapped around rice mixed with herbs and spices like cinnamon.

Portugal

We’ll be mesmerised by the cinematic landscapes and wander pretty cobbled-stoned streets in Portugal. We’ll sail down the stunning Douro and sip the finest ports in Porto, as well as enjoy shimmering views across the sea in Madeira.  Portuguese food is all about big flavours and local ingredients. Dishes to be savoured include freshly grilled sardines, bifana – a traditional Portuguese sandwich filled with pork marinated in wine and garlic and of course, the sweet, the perfectly formed pasteis de nata or custard tarts. It’s impossible not to have at least two in one sitting!
