Cambodia

From its vast expanse of water-based agricultural lands overlooked by the awesome Hoang Lien mountains in the north, to the sinuous coast-hugging length of the country as its scimitar shape cuts through the South China Seas into the Gulf of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia are defined by rivers, ponds and a life lived on and with water - literally the lifeblood of these countries. At the same time, the Central Highlands dividing the two great deltas of the Red River and the tropical south's Mekong make for dramatic differences. 'Contrast' is an often over-used word in travel descriptions but it certainly applies when comparing Hanoi and its mix of stately French colonial buildings, pagodas and Asian architecture, Ho Chi Minh City, known as the Paris of the East and the Khmer's greatest monument at Angkor, Cambodia.
