Few South America holidays can match this grand tour in scope, comfort and inclusions, encompassing four enthralling countries and highlight after iconic highlight. Other operators’ ‘grand tours’ only include Brazil, Argentina and Chile - we also include Peru, making this the ideal once-in-a-lifetime South America tour.
All of the great wonders of Latin America are here - the magnificent and mysterious mountain-top Inca city of Machu Picchu, breathtakingly powerful Iguazu Falls, the stunning lake-lands of Chile and Argentina and the exhilarating city of Rio, set in the twin shadows of Sugar Loaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer.
Our epic journey also presents unmissable opportunities to discover the colonial elegance of Cuzco and Santiago, and appreciate the unmistakeable passion and romance of Buenos Aires.
Today we fly to the city of Puerto Montt in the Chilean Lake District, founded in 1852 by German colonists, who were actively "recruited" by the Chilean government. We take a short tour of the city and gain views of the Angelemo and Reloncavi Bays before continuing on to the town of Puerto Varas, which enjoys a location on the shores of the huge Lake Llanquihue. The lake covers over 330 square miles, the fourth biggest in South America, and is shadowed by the snow-capped Osorno and Calbuco Volcanoes. Our hotel this evening is the Cabanas del Lago.
