Small in size, yet rich in beauty and diversity, Ecuador has much to offer. The great city of Quito, giant volcanoes and majestic national parks reward visits, but the undoubted highlight is the archipelago of the Galapagos, where the characterful and often unique wildlife, which so inspired Charles Darwin’s theories of evolution, regard humans with curiosity rather than suspicion.
The small volcanic islands of The Galapagos are believed to be around 5 million years old and are home to as many as 26 endemic species of birds and other unique creatures. What makes these islands so special is the number of small animal, bird and reptile species and the lack of the larger natural predators.
