The dramatic canyons and boundless deserts of Arizona comprise a landscape instantly recognisable the first time you see it. This is the Wild West of countless iconic movies; the Wild West of childhood games of ‘Cowboys and Indians’. Our tour presents a peerless insight into the real history of the West as you appreciate marvels of nature such as the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Lake Powell, the latter in the company of a Native American guide. And, of course, no tour of the Wild West would be complete without a visit to Tombstone, scene of the infamous ‘Gunfight at the OK Corral’.
This morning you have the opportunity to take a fabulous fixed wing or helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon, before you travel along the rim to Desert View for arguably one of the most expansive views of this massive canyon. Continuing through Cameron we visit the Glen Canyon Dam, whose construction created Lake Powell, the second largest man made lake in America. The dam used nearly five million cubic yards of concrete and took seven controversial years to complete as a result of the ancient Native American sites and natural formations which were permanently flooded by the resulting 186 mile long lake, which took over fifteen years to fill. We stay at the Lake Powell Resort for two nights.
