Wadi Rum
The desert of Wadi Rum is famed for being the filming site for David Lean’s ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ masterpiece and you can enjoy a jeep safari deep into the desert still inhabited by the Bedouin tribes. Also known as The Valley of the Moon, it is the largest wadi in Jordan, and besides Lawrence of Arabia, it has also been used in various other films and productions including Antony Hoffman’s Red Planet.
Petra
The ‘Rose Red City’ or Ancient City of Petra, was only rediscovered in 1812, after being hidden beneath the sands for centuries. It is recognised by UNESCO as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It’s spectacular temple, Treasury and Monastery have been hewn out of solid rock. Jordan itself, due to its strategic location in the middle of the ancient world was the heart of famous civilisations of old, including the Babylonian, Greek, Persian, Roman and Byzantine empires.
