Perhaps the three greatest historical and cultural cities of central Europe are united in this unmissable holiday. From superlative, centrally located hotels in each, discover the Gothic treasures of Prague, the extravagant imperial monuments of Vienna and the picturesque ‘east meets west’ charm of Budapest, with a visit to a fourth spectacular capital city, Bratislava, also included en route.
After breakfast, we board our coach for the journey to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, that has many fine buildings and its Baroque and Rococo palaces are as elegant as any in Vienna. Late afternoon, we arrive in the beautiful city of Budapest. Divided by the River Danube, which separates the plains of Pest from the hilly area of Buda, the city is always lively and has long been a haven for writers, artists and musicians. In Buda Gellert Hill affords a wonderful view of the city, river and mountains. On the Pest side are the Parliament and the National Museum, which contain many remarkable treasures including the oldest skull yet found in Europe and Liszt’s gold baton. Dinner is included tonight at our hotel, Queens Court Hotel and Residence.
