Western Norway is a treasure trove of natural wonders – millions of years of glacial activity has created a uniquely spectacular coastline intricately carved by thousands of the world’s deepest, narrowest and most beautiful fjords, penetrating far into the country’s mountainous, snow-swept interior. A splendid cruise ship such as Fred.Olsen’s Balmoral presents the perfect vantage point for admiring these awe-inspiring miracles of nature, with their dramatic sheer cliffs and plunging waterfalls, affording time both to unwind and to explore delightful ports of call such as Bergen, Olden and Flåm, from which the world famous mountain railway begins its ascent.
This morning we visit the attractive town of Stavanger, which occupies a picturesque setting close to the sea, forests and mountains at the entrance to Gandsfjord. Whilst here you may like to experience a panoramic city tour where you will discover the highlights of Stavanger including the spectacular views of the fjords and the city. The optional excursion also includes a visit to Old Stavanger - North Europe’s best preserved wooden village, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Late afternoon sailing.
