Fast growing in popularity as a holiday destination, now is the perfect time to discover the Mediterranean paradise of Croatia. Its coastline is one of the most attractive in the world – ruggedly beautiful beaches overlooking more than 1,000 gem-like islands set in the waters of the Adriatic, which change from ultramarine to azure as they approach the shore. This outstanding highlights tour takes in the grand capital city, Zagreb, the stunning Plitvice Lakes and the royal resort town of Sibenik, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and includes a visit to the majestic, walled city of Dubrovnik and many meals and city tours.
After an early start, we travel to the centre of Dubrovnik. Your guided walk will include a visit to the 15th century Rector’s Palace, the one-time residence of the chief citizen who was elected for a month’s post, and to the Franciscan Monastery, famous for its pharmacy dating back to 1317, providing an example of how sophisticated this independent republic was in its heyday. You will then have free time to explore the pedestrianised Old Town, which, with its open air cafés, elegant boutiques and rich cultural history, has earned Dubrovnik not only the title of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site but an exclusive Mediterranean destination.
