England's first UNESCO City of Literature, and the beautiful county in which it sits, have a lot of stories to share with you on a Christmas break. We start with the success story of Thursford’s spectacular Christmas show, with the village transformed into a glittering scene that emanates the festive spirit. We then learn some of the innumerable tales of Norwich, with a history that goes back before the construction of its grand Norman castle, yet an ability to still feel young with modern twists and a popular university. We also take this opportunity to show you some of Norfolk’s most stunning scenery from the comfort of a vintage train on North Norfolk Railway’s famous Poppy line, on a special departure full of the joys of Christmas.

Day 2 Thursford
Enjoy a leisurely start to your day before we leave the hotel late in the morning, for a drive to Thursford, pausing en route for time to purchase lunch. This ancient village with around 200 residents attracts over 130,000 visitors each winter with its spectacular Christmas show. Over the last 40 years, Thursford’s festive celebrations have grown from a small-scale carol concert to a phenomenal show of song, dance and comedy with a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians. Take your seat this afternoon for an outstanding three-hour performance of seasonal and year-round classic songs, and choreographed scenes comparable with West End productions. As the show comes to a flamboyant close, the sun will have set, allowing you a moment to fully appreciate the tens of thousands of lights that fill the trees around the venue - a wonderful Christmas wonderland. We return to our hotel for time to freshen up before dinner.
Day 3 Christmas Eve - Norwich
This morning we take a guided sightseeing tour of Norwich by coach. A thousand years ago, this university town was one of the biggest cities in England, with the longest run of medieval defences in the country. The vast wall, gates and round towers are in ruins now, however there is no shortage of historical buildings merging with the modern architecture of this city. Our tour includes Norwich Cathedral, a magnificent Norman structure decorated with more than a thousand beautiful medieval roof boss sculptures. Its extravagant size is hinted by its spire, holding the record for being the second tallest in England. We also pass Norwich Castle, another mark of the city’s Norman past. After our city tour you have time to explore the wonderfully haphazard streets at leisure. The cobbled Cathedral Quarter is particularly lovely to explore, with independent shops and cafés in quaint rows. Return to the hotel for dinner, followed by live music. If you wish to join the Bishop of Norwich for the Midnight Eucharist of Christmas, you are welcome to make your way to Norwich Cathedral. Hot beverages and mince pies will be served at the hotel on your return.
Day 4 Christmas Day - Norwich
Start your Christmas Day festivities with a leisurely breakfast and time to relax or take a stroll before mulled wine and a three-course Christmas lunch is served. After the Queen’s speech, enjoy some Christmas cake with your tea or coffee or walk off your lunch to prepare for a Christmas buffet and quiz this evening.
Day 5 Boxing Day - North Norfolk Railway
This morning we head to Sheringham, the headquarters for the North Norfolk Railway. The railway operates both steam-hauled and diesel-hauled services from this quaint Victorian station on a 10.5-mile round trip, taking in some of Norfolk’s most stunning coastal countryside and beautiful wooded hills. We board a vintage coach for a special, diesel-powered journey on the Poppy Line, to enjoy the beautiful scenery as hot mince pies and sherry are served at your seat. Further seasonal refreshments, including mulled wine, are available in the buffet car. We return to the hotel to spend the rest of the day at leisure. Maybe take this opportunity to explore the area a little further, or give in to temptation with tea, coffee and cakes served at the hotel later this afternoon. This evening’s meal will be accompanied by live music.
Day 6 Norwich
This morning we have time for breakfast, before bidding farewell. You will be collected at 10am by your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
