Before the ‘Sunshine State’ became known for its fun-filled theme parks and bustling beach resorts, it was a haven for interwar artists, writers and architects. Ernest Hemingway, Robert Frost and Tennessee Williams made their home in Key West, travelling artists established a creative community in St Petersburg and Miami’s South Beach was transformed in a sweep of Art Deco colour and geometric splendour. This tour follows in their footsteps and traces the history of Florida even further back, to the settlement of St Augustine in 1565, but does not ignore the best of the state’s modern attractions, including Everglades National Park and Kennedy Space Center.

It has been five decades since Alan Shepard first launched from Florida to become the first American in space. This afternoon we travel onto Fort Lauderdale and our hotel the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six.
Kennedy Space Center

Today we enjoy the cosmopolitan city of Miami, famous for its colourful art deco buildings and white sandy beaches. It is a unique city that will be loved by all. Later we have our first glimpse of the stunning Florida Keys as we arrive at the DoubleTree Grand Key Resort, Key West, our home for the next two nights.
Day 5 Key West
Today we take the conch train, a trolley tour, which explores the island and affords views of ornate Victorian mansions, tin-roofed conch houses and many historical sights. We also visit Ernest Hemingway’s home, located in the very heart of Old Town Key West where the Noble Prize winner lived and wrote with his many cats for more than ten years. The rest of the day will be at leisure to enjoy the dramatic sunset.

A fantastic holiday as they say taken care of from my door and back. Most of the hotels were superb but a couple could do with a bit of refurbishment. I personally loved every minute of the holiday particularly the last three days in Clearwater to wind down.
This was the first of my three Titan holidays this year so I highly recommend them.

There were parts of the tour that were quite long on the coach. Would have liked to spend more time at Key West and less at Fort Myers which was in a remote location and difficult to visit places. It might be worth looking at 2 separate tours, one covering the East coast down to Key West and the other covering the west coast down to Key West with more time at each location

This was a thoroughly enjoyable tour . We covered over 1200 miles and saw many of the main attractions in Florida, including St Augustine, The Kennedy Space centre, Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach and Key West. We finished off at Fort Myers and Clearwater.
The hotels were great and well situated so that we could have seen far more had we been so minded.
The tour guide and driver were excellent and provided great service and local knowledge.

My husband and I have just returned from The Best of Florida (3rd may - 14th May 2015) and would recommend this tour to any one wanting to do a tour of Florida. It is a good comprehensive tour but could be a fantastic tour with a few alterations. There is a lot of coach travel involved (spacious coaches used with a loo on board) and stops are regular for leg stretching etc. The included excursions are extremely enjoyable and educational but I think the itinerary could be made better by missing the 1 night stop over in Fort Lauderdale and carrying on for a 2 night stop in Miami where there is much more to see and do. The Double Tree Hotel in Key West is perfect and although not near the centre, run a regular shuttle bus all through the day (last bus 11:20pm) which works perfectly. The other itinerary alteration should be the Fort Meyers 2 night stop. originally Titan stayed in Naples but (can only think for costs) changed it to Fort Meyers. This 2 night stop was a waste of time as the Crowne Plaza Lodge used is in the middle of nowhere on a retail outlet car park miles from any town or beach. The only entertainment in the evening was a local cinema. Not a good choice, and at best should be a 1 night stop not 2. It would be better to have 1 night in Naples thus with the 2 night Miami and 1 night Naples alteration it would still be a 10 night holiday but a much better itinerary. Even if the overall holiday cost a little more I think it would be worth it. Our tour rep David was great and overall really enjoyed the tour and the excursions.
