Day 1 London - Dallas
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Dallas. On arrival we will be transferred to the Crowne Plaza Dallas (3T+) for two nights.
Day 2 Dallas
Today our exploration begins with a city tour of Dallas, followed by a visit to Dealey Plaza and The Sixth Floor Museum. Situated in the former Texas School Book Depository, from which Lee Harvey Oswald is alleged to have fired the shots that killed President John F. Kennedy, the museum chronicles his assassination and his legacy. For fans of the 1980s television show ‘Dallas’, this evening will be an opportunity to reminisce, as you depart for a tour of the iconic Southfork Ranch.
Day 3 Dallas - Fort Worth
This morning we visit Fort Worth, taking in the downtown area and the Cultural District, home to five museums set within one large park. The vibrant National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame, dedicated to honouring the women of the American West, is our next stop before finishing at the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District with its many landmark buildings. We stay in the Courtyard Fort Worth Downtown-Blackstone Hotel (3T+).
Day 4 Fort Worth
Today is at leisure to spend as you wish, in this historical city.
Day 5 Fort Worth - Waco - Austin
We head south to central Texas and the state’s capital city, Austin. En route we will make a stop at the Homestead Heritage, located a few miles outside the town of Waco. This evening we join a boat cruise to the Congress Avenue Bridge where, at sunset, the largest urban colony of bats in North America is known to emerge from under the bridge and fly across town - a spectacular sight to see! We stay at Renaissance Austin Hotel (4T) for the next two nights.
Day 6 Austin
We start today with a guided tour of Austin, including the extraordinary Capitol building. The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum is this afternoon’s destination; many historical papers are held here, together with a scale model of the Oval Office as it was during the 36th US President’s time in office.
Day 7 Austin - Fredericksburg - San Antonio
Departing Austin we visit Fredericksburg, rich with the culture of German pioneers who settled in the town over 160 years ago. Later we continue to a city strongly influenced by the age-old splendours of classical Spain and visit the Alamo, where Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and Colonel Travis fought to the death in the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Check in at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk, San Antonio (3T).
Day 8 San Antonio
Enjoy a tour of San Antonio and frontier missions of San Antonio, which were established in the 17th century onwards, with the aspiration to spread Christianity to the local indigenous peoples. Four of the five frontier missions are preserved, including Mission San Jose. The afternoon is free to explore San Antonio’s marketplaces and speciality boutiques which stretch along the tree-lined walkway of the River Walk, the focal point of the city.
Day 9 San Antonio - Galveston
Continue to the coastal city of Galveston - the inspiration for Glenn Campbell’s 1969 song. We stop en route at Moody Mansion, where we get an insight into the life of a powerful Texas family, developed from the 19th century cotton trade. On arrival we check in to the Courtyard by Marriott (3T), Galveston.
Day 10 Galveston
The romantic Galveston Island (and smaller Pelican Island), tucked away at the bottom of Texas, is perhaps a stark contrast from the images that the state first conjures. With soft sandy beaches and famous 19th century architecture, the island is brimming with history and unique beauty. We explore this on a city tour, with time free to explore at leisure.
Day 11 Galveston - Houston
This morning we visit Pier 21 Theatre to watch ‘The Great Storm’ film, documenting a darker day in the city’s past, when in 1900 the city was hit by a significant hurricane, prompting a major development of higher sea walls and protection. We continue to Houston; the ‘Space City’ lives up to its name, as we travel to Space Center Houston for a fascinating insight into NASA’s past, present and future. Exhibits include the old and current mission control, the Apollo 17 Command Module, a Saturn V and a replica Shuttle. We take an extraordinary journey around the site, before continuing to our hotel, the Sheraton Suites Galleria (4T).
Day 12 Houston - In flight
After a city tour this morning, we depart the fourth most populous city in the USA and transfer to the airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London.
Day 13 London
Arrival at London Heathrow where you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
