Day 1 London - Boston
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Boston Logan Airport. On arrival we transfer to the W Boston Hotel (4T), with the rest of the day at leisure to relax or explore the fashionable theatre district of Back Bay.
Day 2 Boston
The story of the American Revolution is no more evident than in Boston. As well as a selection of more modern sights, including Beacon Hill, the Back Bay Waterfront and the Financial District, our tour takes us to some of the 16 major sites that form the Freedom Trail, outlining the long fight for freedom from Britain. As we follow the trail our guide will offer an insight into the defining events, including the rebellious Boston Tea Party which roused colonies into action. We also travel to Plimoth Plantation, where you can explore the re-created 17th century village which recalls the life of the early colony.
Day 3 Boston - Portland
Today we travel to Portland, a very attractive town with a lively shopping district where boutiques, galleries and restaurants line the cobbled streets. Its lovely waterfront is the starting point for walking adventures and sailing opportunities. This afternoon we visit Portland Head Light, the much photographed landmark which has overseen the rugged shores of Fort Williams Park since January 1791, and take a stroll through the beautiful park, named after its long deactivated military fortification. Tonight we stay at the Holiday Inn by the Bay (3T).
Day 4 Portland - Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor
Our journey today takes us to Acadia National Park, one of America’s oldest and most beautiful national parks. It covers much of Mount Desert Island, including Cadillac Mountain - the tallest mountain on the Atlantic coast and, being mere miles from the shoreline, the first spot that sunlight hits America each morning. The stunning, rugged and forested landscape is home to an abundance of plant life changing colours in the autumn sun, and wildlife which includes moose, bear, raccoons, bald eagles and peregrine falcons. You may also spot seals and whales from the coast. Our hotel for tonight, the Bluenose Hotel (4T), is located in Bar Harbor, along the island’s stunning rock-bound northeast coast.
Day 5 Bar Harbor - North Conway
Our journey continues to North Conway, on the edge of New Hampshire’s 700,000 acre White Mountain National Forest. The scenery as we approach the town is sensational all year round. We check into the North Conway Grand (3T+).
Day 6 North Conway
Today we ride the world’s first mountain-climbing train to the summit of the highest peak in New Hampshire. The Mount Washington Cog Railway was completed on 3 July 1869 to help people ascend 6288 feet to the top of the White Mountains. Still running nearly 150 years on, it has become a national engineering landmark and displays vintage steam engines (including the original ‘Old Peppersass’ engine) and replica coaches, as well as biodiesel locomotives. On our journey up the mountainside, you will appreciate both the scale of Mount Washington and the trials of forging this railway. The wind can create a chill at the top of the mountain, even on a sunny day, but the views are wonderful as you take a stroll before the train makes the steep descent. We also visit Mt Washington Observatory Museum which highlights the extreme winter weather conditions on the mountain, when sub-zero temperatures can combine with hurricane-force winds to create some of the world’s worst weather.
Day 7 North Conway - Québec City
This morning we pass through picturesque villages as we travel through Vermont into Canada, and check into our hotel, the Québec City Marriott Downtown (4T).
Day 8 Québec City
This morning we take a sightseeing tour of Québec City, the only fortified city in North America. The perfectly-preserved, compact Old Town offers plenty to see, with 17th and 18th century houses and soaring church spires along narrow cobblestone streets, and the luxury Château Frontenac hotel which has welcomed many famous guests and hosted Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt for the important Québec Conferences of World War II.
Day 9 Québec City - Montréal
This morning we travel to Montréal and check into the Gouveneur Hotel Montréal (4T), before an afternoon tour introduces us to the highlights of Québec’s largest city. Montréal is celebrating its 375th anniversary in 2017. Starting as a mission colony of just 50 settlers, it has grown into a prominent city with three million citizens and a multitude of cultures; however the French roots and British influences still shine through as you explore this fascinating metropolis.
Day 10 Montréal - Ottawa
We depart for Ottawa, the vibrant capital with some of the most impressive parliament buildings in the world. We take a tour to see these buildings and travel along the 202km Rideau Canal, the graceful inter-city waterway which becomes the world’s largest skating rink when winter’s chill sets in. We stay at the Hotel Indigo Downtown City Centre (3T+).
Day 11 Ottawa - Toronto
Our journey this morning takes us to Gananoque, on the edge of Lake Ontario, where we board a boat for a cruise to the Thousand Islands - a highlight of our tour. Known by the Indians as Manitoana or the ‘Garden of the Great Spirit’, you may spot an array of birds enjoying the small islands and wetland habitats as we cruise between the scenic channels that divide them. Back on land, we travel to Toronto and the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Toronto Downtown (4T). A tour of the city will acquaint you with the city’s many facets. See splendidly-restored 19th century buildings and gleaming skyscrapers including the world famous 553m CN Tower.
Day 12 Niagara Falls
Today we visit the mighty Niagara Falls, offering a multitude of ways to enjoy this phenomenal attraction. Sail along the river, take to the skies or walk along its banks to appreciate the vast size and incredible sound of 750,000 gallons of water pouring over The Falls every second.
Day 13 Toronto - In flight
