Day 2 - Scenic cruising - Antwerp (overnight)
Day 2 Scenic cruising - Antwerp (overnight). Spend the morning cruising the Western Scheldt River to Antwerp, Belgium’s second city and the world’s leading centre for cut diamonds. Explore the city independently or take an optional excursion to enjoy the Old Town, where you will see the gabled guild houses, Town Hall and legendary Brabo statue before finding yourself in one of the exquisite local chocolate shops. Remaining in port overnight, you may like to take the opportunity to treat your taste buds further by sampling one of the 450 varieties of beer that are brewed in Belgium.
Day 3 - Antwerp
There is much here to fill the day of an art lover. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts is dedicated, in part at least, to Pieter Paul Rubens, housing his finest works, along with those of other Flemish masters; and the impressive Cathedral of Our Lady, the biggest church in Benelux, has four altarpieces by Rubens. You may also like to visit his delightful home and studio, with an exquisite garden and fourteen of his canvases on display. The Museum Plantin-Moretus has the unusual status of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the home of the world’s first industrial printing works, this medieval building is now a museum containing the world’s oldest printing press and priceless manuscripts. We depart late this afternoon.
Day 4 - Amsterdam
We cruise the North Sea Canal to arrive in Amsterdam early this morning. Famous for its extensive canals and many fine museums, the Dutch capital is brimming with rewarding attractions. With nearly 40 museums on offer, you may choose to view the vast collection of works on show at the Van Gogh Museum and the priceless treasures of the Rijksmuseum. You may also enjoy a cruise along the picturesque canals, lined with the elegant homes of wealthy 17th century merchants, or take a trip to out of the city to the beautiful tulip-filled Keukenhof Gardens - more than 7 million bulbs bloom each spring, including 800 varieties of tulips.
Day 5 - At sea
Spend a day on board.
