Day 3 - Cruising the fjords
Sweden’s fjords offer a unique beauty. Abyfjorden has beautiful beaches and untouched, endless lush-green landscapes on each side, dotted with only a few small villages. Gullmarsfjorden, Saltkallefjorden and Farlevfjorden are renowned for their unique marine species, while lush rolling hills and steep cliffs offer stunning backdrops.
Day 4 - Aalborg, Denmark
Arrive in Aalborg, an industrial and university city in the North of Jutland, Denmark. Here there is unique countryside, great gastronomy and good shopping opportunities.
Day 5 - Copenhagen, Denmark
This charming city has something for everyone, from the Tivoli Gardens with its cafés and open-air shows, to Strøget, a fabulous pedestrianised shopping street, and splendid churches, such as the Church of our Saviour in Christianshavn, with its golden staircase winding up the outside of a tower topped by a golden globe.
Day 6 - Visby, Sweden
We have a day to see Visby, the ‘city of roses and ruins’. Within its 13th century enclosed walls it has preserved much of its medieval atmosphere and received the designation of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of its original 17 churches, only 10 survive as ruins and only one (St Mary's) is still used for worship.
Day 7 - At sea
Days 8-9 - St Petersburg, Russia (overnight)
This morning we arrive in St Petersburg, the jewel in the Baltic crown. There will be a choice of shore excursions available to help you to experience all that this magnificent city has to offer. As well as informative city tours embracing the highlights, including the Peter and Paul Fortress, St Isaac’s Cathedral, the cruiser Aurora and the Nevsky Prospekt, there will be excursions to Peterhof, the splendid summer residence of the Tsars, to the glorious Catherine Palace at Pushkin and to the prestigious Hermitage Museum, with its remarkable art collection. It may also be possible to attend an evening at the ballet for which Russia is highly acclaimed, or a concert at the Hermitage. Late afternoon sailing on day 9.
Day 10 - Tallinn, Estonia
One of Europe's most magical capitals is Tallinn. Toompea Hill, with its medieval houses and impressive Gothic Town Hall, is the oldest part and substantial remains of the city wall can still be seen at the foot of the hill, surrounded by well-maintained parks. The wall is adorned with many fairytale turrets, each with its own intriguing name such as Golden Leg Tower, Behind the Nunnery Tower and Fat Margaret. The ornate Alexander Nevskij Cathedral and Kadriorg’s Palace were built when Estonia was part of Tsarist Russia.
Day 11 - At sea
Day 12 - Szczecin, Poland
The enchanting sights, many parks, and impressive bars offer many attractions for the tourist in Szczecin. From here you can visit the Polomos distillery or take a scenic drive to Berlin to enjoy an extensive tour of the capital. Spend the evening cruising Oder River, a vital link between its source in the Czech Republic and Poland, meandering through diverse countryside.
Day 13 - Kiel Canal Transit
Daylight transit through the 61-mile long Kiel Canal which links the North Sea at Brunsbuttel to the Baltic Sea at Kiel-Hotenau. This remarkable feat of engineering allows vessels to avoid having to sail around the Jutland Peninsula and is the most heavily used artificial seaway in the world.
Day 14 - At sea
A final day at sea to enjoy the ship’s facilities and reflect on shared experiences with new-found friends, as Braemar sails homeward across the North Sea.
