With an average winter temperature of 21ºC, Tenerife is an ideal destination to celebrate Christmas in the warm sun. Our delightful holiday, based at a perfectly-located hotel, combines time for leisurely strolls along coastlines fringed with volcanic sands, with time to explore the island on excursions to traditional towns, where suitably elegant decorations and life-size nativity scenes will remind you of the season’s focal point. And if you are lucky, the snow covered peak of Mount Teide will be waiting for your visit.
5 nights in hotel (accommodation as specified or similar)
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow or Gatwick Airport for a direct, scheduled Monarch Airlines flight to Tenerife. On arrival we transfer to the Hotel Sol Costa Atlantis (4T), where we are greeted with a welcome drink.
Day 2 Christmas Eve - Puerto de la Cruz
Enjoy a day of relaxation and exploration at leisure - the seafront promenade directs you from the hotel to the old fishing village, full of festive cheer. Alternatively, take an unmissable optional excursion to Las Cañadas National Park. Being transported from sights of sunbathers on Puerto de la Cruz beach to the slopes of Mount Teide (often covered in snow) is an unusual experience! The volcano’s peak, the highest in Spain, rises from the midst of an enormous volcanic crater, 48km in circumference, and dominates a landscape of vast lava fields. We enjoy Christmas dinner this evening.
Day 3 Christmas Day - Puerto de la Cruz
Today is dedicated to festive feasts and relaxation; a special Christmas lunch is included and the hotel will serve dinner this evening. The hotel’s location is ideal for a Christmas Day swim or a walk along the beach to break up proceedings.
Day 4 Boxing Day - San Cristóbal de La Laguna
Today, there is an included half-day excursion to visit the episcopal and university town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna - widely considered the most beautiful town in Tenerife. Its straight, colourful streets influenced the blueprints of many colonial settlements in the Americas. This city was the island’s original capital, and it is still full of outstanding architectural monuments, palaces and traditional houses of the 17th and 18th centuries, that have won the city its UNESCO World Heritage status. Catedral de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios and the Church of Our Lady of Conception are two of the most impressive statements, the latter with an exceptionally beautiful Baroque pulpit, tower and carved wooden Mudejar ceiling, which we will see today on our tour of the city’s most important scenic sites. We return to the hotel later, where the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 5 La Orotava
After the Spanish conquest, many of the island’s most noble and wealthy families took residence in the town of La Orotava. This 16th century town is one of the oldest in the Canary Islands and sits in La Orotava Valley at the foot of El Teide. The slopes of this fertile valley were perfect for growing sugar cane and grapes, bringing further wealth to the town. Today we take a guided walk through the streets of the Old Town, rich with heritage. The cobbled paths, lined with architectural treasures from Renaissance mansions to beautiful churches, are enhanced by elegant festive decorations throughout December, bringing with them an old-fashioned Christmas atmosphere. Since the 18th century, one of the most important Spanish Christmas traditions is the nativity scene and La Orotava has nearly 30 dotted around the town. Our tour includes a visit to the monumental nativity at Plaza del Ayuntamiento, with 300 life-size figures.
Day 6 Puerto de la Cruz - London
We transfer to the airport for a direct, scheduled Monarch Airlines flight to London Heathrow or Gatwick. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
