The cultural and political heart of modern Russia, the city of Moscow dates back as far as the 12th century. As the roaring waters of the Volga fed the city's steady expansion, over the course of centuries, Moscow experienced invasion from Mongols, Tartars, and a host of European armies - before developing into a stable, prosperous principality. 20th century Moscow was the setting for a host of world-defining moments, and became the grand capital of Russia - and the Soviet Union - in the wake of the 1917 Russian Revolution. As the Cold War thawed, the imposing minarets of the Kremlin and other famous landmarks opened up to the world - offering visitors to Russia countless captivating holiday possibilities.

Titan's evokes Moscow's glorious history in a range of holidays, including Stay and Explore and luxury river cruise options. 'Magnificent Moscow and St Petersburg' is a grand, two-centre Stay and Explore holiday which offers an indulgent three days in Moscow. The holiday includes an orientation tour of the greatest highlights of the city, including the stately Kremlin, Red Square and St Basil's Cathedral. Further excursions include the 16th century New Maiden Convent, where many of Russia's female nobility took their vows, and the Tretyakov gallery, home to the foremost collection of Russian art in the world. In contrast to our Stay and Explore experiences, 'Russia's Royal Riverways', a luxurious river cruise along the Neva and Volga rivers, ends its journey in Moscow. With days to enjoy the capital, cruise passengers have opportunities to discover Moscow's hidden treasures - from the Byzantine splendours of its past, to the cuisine of a city steeped in rich international culture.

Our river cruises showcase Russia's sprawling natural beauty - landscapes full of ancient settlements and landmarks - on journeys which stretch from the capital to St Petersburg. The city of St Petersburg was originally a 17th century fortress at the mouth of the Neva, but was built up into a thriving sea-port by Peter the Great in the 18th century. The city played a crucial role in the October Revolution of 1917 and today the glories of both its imperial and revolutionary past can seen on almost every street. Our luxury river cruise, 'Imperial Waterways of Russia', ends in St Petersburg, treating passengers to tours around the city's extravagant streets - taking in Palace Square, Admiralty Tower and St Isaac's Cathedral. The holiday includes a trip to one of the jewels of St Petersburg, the magnificent Hermitage Museum, home of the Winter Palace and nearly three million individual pieces of art by some of the great European masters including Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Rembrandt. The city is a popular stop on cruises around the nations of the Baltic Sea.

On our dedicated cruises, 'St Petersburg & Baltic Capitals' and 'Splendours of the Baltic', passengers visit destinations in Germany, Sweden, Estonia and Denmark - with a stop in St Petersburg and opportunities to explore the city's captivating museums and palaces.
