Explore the delightful Douro Valley in regal style aboard The Spirit of Chartwell - also known as the ‘Royal Barge’ - the very ship which carried Her Majesty the Queen during the Diamond Jubilee pageant on the Thames. It has now been transformed into an intimate cruise ship, chartered exclusively for small groups of Titan travellers on a leisurely seven-night journey along Portugal’s beautiful River Douro. Sailing between the coastal city of Porto and the Spanish border, you’ll enjoy included visits to picturesque towns, monasteries and palaces along the way, as well as a full-day tour to Salamanca in Spain, while your holiday experience will be enhanced by onboard wine tastings, folk shows, cooking demonstrations and informative talks by our guest lecturer. You’ll also have two nights in the nation’s vibrant capital, Lisbon, and on selected autumn departure dates we will have a special day celebrating the grape harvest with the locals. An unforgettable holiday aboard a truly unique vessel!

In addition, genuine pieces from great ocean-going liners are also on show on the ship, such as two magnificent portholes, an art deco clock and bar stools from the RMS Windsor. The staterooms are illuminated by wall lights from the SS France – one of the longest ever passenger ships. These ‘talking points’ along with the ship’s role in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations will elevate your cruise into a very special experience. The vessel’s 20 staterooms continue the grand theme, each with rich cream mahogany finishes, fully restored antique details such as Royal Navy Ships badges. All are air-conditioned, with private bathroom including shower. There are two staterooms on the upper deck. There are no lifts on the vessel.

The George Bradshaw restaurant/lounge and adjoining Somerset Maugham Piano Bar have large panoramic windows to admire the beautiful scenery of the Douro Valley. Here, excellent cuisine is served using the best of fresh, local ingredients. The seating is arranged from private dining with two seats facing each other, to shared dining from tables of four to eight. The elegant teak observation deck has sun loungers with alfresco dining. You can imagine how the Queen and her family must have felt as they led the pageant down the Thames on the Spirit of Chartwell last year.
