Day 1 - London - Rome, Italy
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow or Gatwick Airport for a flight to Rome. On arrival, you are met by Voyages to Antiquity representatives and transferred to Civitavecchia to board Aegean Odyssey (4T), setting sail early this evening.
Day 2 - Sorrento
Today’s sightseeing tour takes in either Pompeii or Herculaneum, the two towns engulfed by lava erupting from Mt Vesuvius in August AD79. The solidified lava preserved the buildings remarkably well. Even furnishings, paintings and legible notices of political announcements and apartment vacancies have survived, providing invaluable insight into ancient city life.
Day 3 - Sorrento
This morning is free to explore the civilised old town of Sorrento, before cruising past Capri and Amalfi Coast this afternoon.
Day 4 - Palermo, Sicily
Step ashore in beautiful Sicily to explore bustling Palermo and visit the noble Monreale Cathedral, considered by many to be the most beautiful Norman church in Italy, to see the dazzling mosaics. Extend your visit with an optional tour of Palazzo Gangi. Opened exclusively to guests of Voyages to Antiquity, the elaborate palazzo is especially noted for its Sicilian Baroque ballroom decorated with Murano chandeliers, gold fittings and glittering mirrors.
Day 5 - Taormina
A choice of sightseeing tours are available in the mountainside town of Taormina. See the 15th century Palazzo Corvaja with its black and white lava decoration and visit to the Greco-Roman theatre with its breathtaking views of Mt Etna. Or take a journey to the remote mountain villages of Savoca and Forza d’Agro, in stunning scenery that exemplifies the beauty of Italy, known from films including The Godfather trilogy.
Day 6 - Corfu, Greece
Corfu, Greece. Visit Corfu Town to see Greece’s most extensive collections of Byzantine art and icons housed in the museum in the church of Panagía Antivouniótissa, or enjoy the Venetian legacies with a visit to the formidable Old Fortress and elegant Esplanade. The legacy of British rule is also evident in Corfu Town. Your afternoon is free.
Day 7 - Pylos
Inhabited since the Neolithic age, Pylos is a treasure trove of historical sites. Tour Niokastro, one of the most well preserved castles in Greece, or visit the city of Ancient Messini, one of the best-preserved archaeological sites, that includes an almost-intact theatre, the ruins of a 3rd century temple, a time-worn sanctuary and a Byzantine monastery. Day 8 - Gythion
Gythion is the port for our adventure to see the remains of Sparta, the ancient Greek city-state devoted to warrior culture, and the glorious array of Byzantine monuments of Mystras. Or sail into Diros Cave and explore the narrow passageways of this prehistoric settlement on the Gulf of Laconia. These caves were used as a dwelling, workshop, cemetery and place of worship. Day 9 - Nauplia
Tales of Agamemnon and the time of Homer’s heroes take centre stage today on a visit to Mycenae, one of the greatest cities of the highly-developed Mycenaean civilisation. Or choose an afternoon drive through the evocative scenery of the Peloponnesian Peninsula to Epidaurus, a city sacred to the god of medicine, Asclepius. Today, Epidaurus is a vast UNESCO World Heritage Site with temples and hospital buildings that provide insight into the healing cults of the time.
Day 10 - Santorini (Akrotiri)
The Minoan settlement of Akrotiri is the tour's highlight; abandoned after severe earthquakes, then covered in pumice by a volcanic eruption in about 1625 BC. After a visit, continue to tiny Pyrgos, once the capital and Fira, the scenic capital. Ship to shore tender service.
Day 11 - Delos - Mykonos
This morning, visit the sacred island of Delos, one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Greece and the paramount religious sanctuary of the ancient Greek world. The tour of Delos explores the island’s temples and the famous lions. Nearby Mykonos is the perfect contrast for a leisurely afternoon ashore. Ship to shore tender service.
Day 12 Piraeus - Athens - London
This morning you disembark Aegean Odyssey after breakfast and are transferred to Athens Airport for a flight to London Heathrow or Gatwick Airport. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
