Holidays in Italy

The countless delights of Italy have drawn generations of British travellers to the ancient, treasure-filled cities, rolling green hills and spectacular coastlines of this captivating country, and our love affair with Bella Italia remains as strong as ever. Follow in the footsteps of the Caesars in the magnificent Roman Forum and the Colosseum, explore the incomparable artistic heritage of Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance, and the architectural splendour of Venice. Raise a glass of Chianti on a vineyard terrace in Tuscany or join us in discovering the less-familiar corners of the country; Puglia, the ‘heel’ of Italy, famed for its unique ‘trulli’ houses, and the wonderful islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

Summers are generally hot, with a milder spring and autumn and cold winters, particularly in the north. Lightweight cottons and linens are advisable and we suggest that you take layered clothing so that you can adapt to weather conditions accordingly. A jacket and woollens for cooler evenings are useful. We also suggest a light waterproof jacket in case of any occasional showers. Comfortable, closed, flat walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are essential. Other useful items to pack are a small day-backpack, binoculars, a torch and an umbrella. Due to the medieval layout of the towns (and current transport regulations) access is limited and clients are advised that most of our escorted coaching holidays in Italy, involve a significant amount of walking. When visiting churches, visitors (ladies in particular) should cover their arms and shoulders. Entry may also be refused to ladies or gentlemen wearing shorts. For holidays during winter months, to destinations where the weather is a lot colder, you will require waterproof outerwear and stout shoes, warm clothing (hat, coats, gloves and an umbrella). You should be prepared to walk in heavy rain or on snow and ice.

Titan's holiday experiences in Italy contrast the country's modern style with the classical natural beauty of the ancient world. One of our flagship tours, 'Charm of the Dolomites' takes passengers on a coach tour of the famous Dolomite mountain range in Italy's north east. Taking in a spectrum of idyllic, centuries-old settlements nestled along narrow mountain roads, the tour winds its way from Rodengo to Ortisei. Amongst a procession of incredible excursions, passengers disembark to explore the alpine Lake Braies, the city of Trento and Bolzano's archaeological museum - home of a revered 5,300 year old, mummified 'Ice Man'. Finally, at Ortisei, passengers have the opportunity to indulge in a quintessential Dolomite experience - a cable-car ride past dramatic mountains peaks and stunning, green alpine meadows.

Italy's appeal stretches from north to south and east to west. In the east, visitors recline on the shores of Lake Garda or sail the romantic waterways of Venice. In the south east, Puglia - the sun-drenched 'heel' of Italy, is home to settlements like Lecce, Matera and Grottaglie, each brimming with local character and architectural wonder. Rome is a focus point for many of our most popular tours - a showcase of world famous ancient landmarks, including the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps and St Peter's Basilica. Beyond its well-known historical appeal, Rome is a paradise for shoppers, with some of the most stylish retailers in the world plying their trade in the city.
