Amsterdam
Slightly quirky, mildly eccentric and chock-full of history and art, Amsterdam is the Dutch capital and it's a popular destination for people looking for unforgettable holidays in Europe.

There are many ways to get around Amsterdam: take a leisurely stroll and allow yourself to get lost as you wander along the canals and tree-lined streets, hop on a bicycle and see the city the way the locals do or step aboard a canal boat for a tour from a different perspective.

For a bit of culture during your Amsterdam holiday, head to the Van Gough Museum to see some of the famous works of the impressionist painter. Other options include the Hermitage Amsterdam, the National Museum of Modern Art, the Rembrandt House and the Rijksmuseum, which displays works of various Dutch Masters and is the largest museum in the Netherlands.

The Anne Frank House is one of the most popular attractions of the city, which offers a poignant and sobering reminder of the past. See for yourself the tiny annexe where Anne penned her famous diary while she and her family hid from the Nazis for more than two years. You may also want to visit the Jewish Historical Museum in the old Jewish Quarter.

Near the centre of the city, visitors on holidays to Holland will find the Begijnhof, a pretty square surrounded by characteristic tall houses. It's a lovely spot for enjoying your lunch and relaxing in the sunshine. Number 34, also known as The Wooden House, was built in 1528 and is one of the oldest houses in Amsterdam.

Other attractions include the National Maritime Museum, the Oude Kerk with its gothic bell tower and the majestic Magere Brug

See even more with a river or ocean cruise to Holland
When planning holidays to Holland, why not add a few more destinations to your itinerary by scheduling an ocean or river cruise in Europe?

A Uniworld river cruise in Holland, for example, will take you through the country's lovely canals and then along the Rhine. From there, you will pass through German towns like Cologne and Frankfurt, Strasbourg in France and Basel in Switzerland.

Or why not extend your journey to include some time in Belgium? If the silky chocolates, distinctive cheeses and refreshing beers aren't enough to lure you to places like Bruges, Antwerp and Brussels, then the windmills, tulips, scenic waterways, fabulous art galleries and stunning architecture should do the trick.

You could also opt for a no-fly cruise to Holland. These relaxing holidays allow you to avoid the hassle of airports and start enjoying your break even sooner. An ocean cruise in Europe with a Dover departure will give you the chance to see some of the gorgeous British coastline from the deck of your ship, before crossing the North Sea to IJmuiden for Amsterdam.
