Day 1 - London - Berlin - Stralsund
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Berlin. On arrival, we transfer to the port in Stralsund and embark MS Johannes Brahms (3T+) with time to settle in before dinner.
Day 2 - Stralsund - Vitte - Stralsund
Departing Stralsund early this morning, we arrive in Hiddensee Island over breakfast, docking in the main village of Vitte. This beautiful, tranquil, car-free island on the edge of the Baltic Sea is a protected breeding ground for a number of endangered bird species including the little tern. Take some time to explore before returning to our vessel to sail back to Stralsund. After being destroyed by rival town Lübeck, Stralsund quickly recovered and became the second most important town of the Hanseatic League, after its rival, and a Swedish administrative and defensive centre for the German territories in the 17th and 18th centuries. It has left a legacy of historic cobbled streets and classic red-brick Gothic architecture that is exemplified in the grandiose churches and Town Hall. After a morning at leisure, we have a city tour that reveals this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 3 - Stralsund - Lauterbach - Peenemünde
Enjoy a leisurely morning on board as we sail to the fishing village of Lauterbach, a modern marina in a calm bay of Rügen Island. Spend the afternoon enjoying the island’s stunning chalk coastline and white-sand beaches, plus beautiful views over vibrant fields and forests, as well as a selection of thought-provoking museums. Our cruise continues to Peenemünde where we dock overnight.
Day 4 - Peenemünde - Demmin - Anklam
When visiting Demmin, it is easy to forget its dark, troubled past. After a leisurely morning and lunch on board, stroll through the Hanse Quarter, opposite the dock, where old crafts including weaving, pottery and felting are still practised alongside the blacksmith’s forge. Take time to visit the castle ruins or The Powder Tower, the only surviving tower out of the town’s 27 medieval towers and gates, before our cruise continues to Anklam, birthplace of Otto Lilienthal, arguably the most important pioneer of aviation prior to the Wright brothers. We remain here overnight.
Day 5 - Anklam - Swinoujscie
Swinoujscie, known by many by its old German name Swinemünde, is the main town on the Island of Usedom. The attractive seaside town has a touch of faded grandeur and a long list of notable visitors including Kaiser Wilhelm II and Tsar Nicholas II, who met here in 1907. We take an included tour of the island, nicknamed Berlin’s Bathtub for the draw the beautiful 42km white-sand beach had for wealthy pre-war holidaymakers. Magnificent villas, delightful pavilions and Swinoujscie lighthouse originate from these days, when the elegant seaside resorts were declared health resorts. Away from the popular beach, the undisturbed island is a secluded haven of nature, dotted with windmills and old villages.
Day 6 - Swinoujscie - Szczecin - Oderberg - Niederfinow - Eberswalde
Our cruise resumes early this morning, arriving in Szczecin, a city with an unsettled history, over breakfast. During our stop here, the richly-decorated stone gates and the mysteriously named Tower of Seven Cloaks, one of the few remaining parts of the city’s medieval fortifications, are worth finding. We see the oldest functioning ship canal lift in Germany, in Niederfinow, a technical masterpiece that elevates vessels 36 metres to continue the journey to Eberswalde and remain overnight.
Day 7 - Eberswalde - Berlin
Relax on board this morning as we make our final journey to Berlin. After lunch, we take a guided tour of the intriguing capital which includes important sites from its turbulent history such as the restored Reichstag building and Checkpoint Charlie. Berlin has regained and surpassed much of its pre-war glory with cutting-edge architecture leading visions of its future.
Day 8 Berlin - London
Disembark MS Johannes Brahms and transfer to the airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Heathrow. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
