Day 1 - London - Frankfurt - Mannheim
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Frankfurt. On arrival, we will transfer to Royal Crown (4T) for an afternoon embarkation with time to settle in before dinner on board this evening.
Day 2 - Boppard - Cochem
Awake this morning in Boppard, one of the most important Roman settlements on the Rhine. Wherever you choose to wander you will be reminded of the city’s Roman history - their fort has become the centre of this lively town. The Electoral Castle was established on the river bank to intercept enemies and collect tolls from passing ships to fill the Elector’s pockets. It has since been a police station, courthouse, military prison and now a museum. Our journey continues north at lunchtime, joining the Moselle to cruise to the romantic little town of Cochem, on a particularly scenic section of the river, where we stay overnight.
Day 3 - Cochem - Bernkastel
This morning is dedicated to the traditional German town of Cochem, where a rich history has been trodden into every street. Little seems to have changed over the centuries - the town square, lined with half-timbered houses, is a fine example of this. Dominating this town is imperial Cochem Castle, inhabited by Napoleon in 1801 while he was at war with the Kingdom of Prussia. Take an optional excursion of this impressive mountaintop castle to learn of the many acts of murder, manslaughter and power battles that occurred within its walls. Later, our cruise continues along a serpentine course to Bernkastel, passing beautiful landscapes that include Europe’s steepest vineyard. We reach port late this evening.
Day 4 - Bernkastel - Trier
Enjoy a morning in Bernkastel, teeming with half-timbered wine taverns. Be sure to look for the ‘pointed house’ in the web of streets of the old town. This precariously narrow gabled house is an example of a Moselle-style winegrower’s house from the Middle Ages, complete with an oak-beamed wine cellar. Relax on board this afternoon as we sail to Trier, a beautiful backdrop for this evening’s dinner.
Day 5 - Trier - Kaub
An included city tour introduces you to Trier, founded by Augusta Treverorum in 16BC during the reign of Augustus Caesar. The amphitheatre, Imperial Throne Room, Imperial Baths, remnants of the St Barbara Roman Baths and the Roman Bridge, which is still part of a main road into the city, all bear witness to Trier's classical heritage. The city’s medieval buildings, including several temples and towers, are also impressive, while the city’s two universities have ensured a constant influx of youth to keep the city alive. Enjoy time at leisure before returning to Royal Crown for an evening cruise to Kaub.
Day 6 - Kaub - Traben-Trarbach
We cruise to Traben-Trarbach, the second largest wine trading city in Europe, after Bordeaux, for the opportunity to enjoy a wine tasting experience on an optional excursion. The enormous wealth generated by the wine trade was invested in the two beautiful medieval villages, united by a single bridge across the Moselle.
Day 7 - Andernach
Enjoy a relaxing morning on deck as we return to the Rhine, arriving in Andernach for the opportunity to see the Andernach Geyser on an optional excursion. The world’s largest cold water geyser jets up to an incredible 60 metres. Alternatively there are plenty of well-preserved sites to observe as you stroll within the walls of the ancient town.
Day 8 - Andernach - Cologne
Our final journey takes us to Cologne for lunch. Remaining here overnight, you have the rest of the day to enjoy this city of seemingly endless attractions. From Roman walls to medieval churches, functional post-war constructions and a post-modern quarter, Cologne bears its history on its streets. Under their roofs is a vast selection of museums covering art, religion, sport, chocolate and perfume, to name just a few subjects.
Day 9 Cologne - Düsseldorf - London
Following breakfast, we disembark and transfer to Düsseldorf Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Heathrow or Gatwick. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
