We depart Koblenz at lunchtime and sail to Rüdesheim, arriving in the evening. There is also time this evening for an optional visit to Siegfried’s Music Museum in Rüdesheim, which provides an insight into the history and mechanics of music boxes.
Day 3 - Rüdesheim - Speyer
We sail early for Speyer, one of Germany’s oldest cities. The 11th century cathedral’s crypt contains the tombs of eight of Germany’s emperors and kings. We arrive after lunch and dock here overnight.
Day 4 - Speyer - Rastatt - Strasbourg
We sail this morning to Rastatt, arriving at midday. From here, there will be an optional tour of the Black Forest, including a drive along the renowned and scenic ‘Schwarzwald Hochstrasse’, from where stunning views of the wooded mountain range can be seen, from elevated passages and the valleys within. Stop in the heart of the forest for some Black Forest gateau, before returning to the ship and continuing to the famous city of Strasbourg.
Day 5 - Strasbourg - Breisach
We have a morning to explore the grand French city of Strasbourg. An optional tour of the city centre will take you through ancient artisan Petite France and to its monumental cathedral featuring carvings as delicate as any piece of lacework. For May and June departures, the optional tour also includes a boat ride along the city’s canals with beautiful timber-framed houses teetering on the edge. Later, set sail to Breisach.
Day 6 - Breisach - Basel
Spend more time in the Black Forest today, with an optional visit to the scenic Lake Titisee. Popular with water sport fans, you may have your own adventure on the lake with a boat trip and included light lunch. Return to the ship to sail to Basel, where we dock overnight.
Day 7 - Basel
Step into Switzerland today, with an optional tour to the picturesque Bernese Oberland region, including visits to Grindelwald and Interlaken, nestled in the valleys of the imposing Alps. This evening we set sail to Kehl.
Day 8 - Kehl (Colmar)
Heading north, we arrive in Kehl this morning to take an included excursion to the historic Alsatian town of Colmar. The excursion includes time to explore and a scenic drive to picturesque Riquewihr, popular for its beautiful buildings, medieval fortifications and castle. We return to the ship and set sail for Mannheim later this afternoon.
Day 9 - Mannheim (Heidelberg) - Mainz
We sail on to Mannheim where you can disembark for an optional afternoon walking tour of the old town of Heidelberg, including entrance to the dominating Renaissance castle. We continue to Mainz, the capital during Roman reign and a city that illustrates its history through the various architectural styles to be found across the city, if you choose to explore this afternoon.
Day 10 - Mainz - Boppard
Arrive in Boppard to experience one of the best-preserved late-antiquity fortresses in Europe. The remains of the 12 acre Roman Camp include 28 semi-circular towers and large sections of wall that rise up to 9 meters. The city’s pretty half-timbered buildings offer a wonderfully cosy setting for the wine taverns that serve excellent Riesling made from the grapes grown in the surrounding vineyards – maybe a refreshing reward after a steep hike through the fantastic valleys.
Day 11 - Boppard - Bonn
Arrive early in Bonn, for a full day of sightseeing. Perhaps take an optional walking tour of this Roman city, fortified in 1244 after an already tumultuous history. The quiet city became capital of West Germany in 1949 until German reunification. Included in the optional tour is entrance to Beethoven’s House - home, during his youth, to Bonn’s most famous son.
Day 12 Bonn - Folkestone
Following breakfast this morning, we disembark the ship to board our waiting coaches to take us on the return journey to Calais and our Eurotunnel crossing. Upon arrival at The Grand Hotel, you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
