Celebrate Christmas on this splendid cruise along the Rhine, whilst discovering the region’s most idyllic and historic cities. Spend Christmas Eve enjoying a guided walking tour of Speyer’s famous attractions, including the spectacular 11th century Romanesque cathedral, then walk off your Christmas Day indulgences in the cosmopolitan city of Strasbourg. The voyage also visits some of this river’s adored attractions including Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and Rüdesheim’s old town - Drosselgasse - enriched with live band entertainment and delicious cuisine and wine. Conclude in Cologne, dominated by its medieval Gothic cathedral and home to numerous world-famous museums.
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from your home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Dusseldorf. On arrival, transfer to Cologne and embark MS Serenade 1 (4T). Light refreshments are available on arrival, with time at leisure to settle in before a welcome cocktail and dinner this evening.
Day 2 - Koblenz
This morning we arrive in Koblenz, a city dating as far back as the 11th century and renowned for its array of historic monuments. The city has long been watched over by extensive fortifications and the beautiful Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, built in the early 19th century, is the subject of our included excursion. Enjoy a panoramic cable car ride from Koblenz up to the fortress, for astounding views and then take a guided walk around the historic city itself and admire the elegant architecture. We dock in Koblenz overnight.
Day 3 - Koblenz - Lorelei Rock - Mainz
Early this morning we sail the beautiful, winding Lorelei Passage and pass the legendary Lorelei Rock; the scenery is utterly spectacular here as the narrowest part of the stunning Rhine. Early afternoon we arrive in Mainz, an old German town filled with timbered houses, medieval market squares and fascinating architecture. You might want to visit one of the historic monuments including the royal palace and beautiful cathedral. We set sail this evening.
Day 4 - Christmas Eve - Speyer
Enjoy a scenic sail to Speyer, a city that showcases more than 2,000 years of history. An optional walking tour is available to explore unique historic attractions, romantic lanes, lively squares and promenades that offer new discoveries at every turn. Its cathedral, originally founded by the Salian emperors in the 11th century, is today an outstanding example of Romanesque architecture and it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This evening, the Captain’s Christmas Eve gala dinner awaits as we begin the Christmas festivities.
Day 5 - Christmas Day - Strasbourg
Enjoy traditional Christmas festivities, with a delicious gala lunch. There is then free time this afternoon to visit the grand city of Strasbourg. The city centre has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the twisting alleys lined with crooked houses and its monumental cathedral are a delight to explore.
Day 6 - Boxing Day - Rüdesheim
At lunchtime we sail into the enthralling wine-growing city of Rüdesheim. The Romans were the first wine growers here, but the tradition is still very much alive and on an included walking tour, we visit traditional wine taverns found within historic half-timbered houses. The highlight of today’s tour is the famous Drosselgasse, an area in Rüdesheim’s old town adored by visitors for its live entertainment, where you can indulge in delicious regional cuisine and wine and relax in the vibrant, lively atmosphere. We dock overnight in Rüdesheim.
Day 7 - Rüdesheim - Lorelei Rock - Cologne
Early this morning we pass through the beautiful Lorelei Passage once again before a mid-afternoon arrival into Cologne - one of Germany’s oldest cities, boasting historical treasures and excellent museums. On an included walking tour, we discover many years of history by exploring the city’s monuments that reflect many different stages in the city’s cultural history, from the Roman Empire to the modern day. Cologne Cathedral is a fascinating structure, constructed between 1248 and 1880 and is the perfect place to admire medieval Gothic architecture.
Day 8 Cologne - Dusseldorf - London
Disembark in Cologne and transfer to Dusseldorf Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Heathrow. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
