Day 1 - London - Berlin - Dessau
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Berlin. On arrival, we transfer to the port in Dessau and embark MS Johannes Brahms (3T+) with time to settle in as we set sail. Enjoy the passing scenery as you sip on a welcome drink, take dinner, and enjoy an evening on board.
Day 2 - Wittenberg
Our morning is spent in Schloss Oranienbaum Palace, an impressive example of Dutch Baroque architecture in Germany; and the entire town was built in this style, geometrically aligned for maximum impact. The adjoining landscape includes the 18th century Anglo-Chinese Garden, considered the only one of its kind in Europe, complete with a five-story pagoda and Tea House. We return to our vessel to depart for Meissen.
Day 3 - Meissen - Dresden
This morning we visit Colditz Castle, the infamous WWII Prisoner of War camp which set the scene for some of the most ingenious and dramatic prison breaks. Holding officers of multiple nationalities within its supposedly impenetrable walls, there grew a healthy rivalry between troops for the highest number of successful escapes, several of which were impressive enough to become story lines in many books, films and games. The castle stood since the 11th century as a watch tower and, through several reconstructions, found new roles as a workhouse, a home, a mental institution for Germany’s wealthy and even once held one of Europe’s largest zoos in its grounds. There are many stories to learn of the castle’s voluntary and involuntary residents on your tour today. Return to our vessel for lunch and an afternoon cruise to Dresden, where we dock early this evening and remain overnight.
Day 4 - Dresden
This morning we have an included tour of Dresden, a city that has risen from the rubble of WWII. Despite most of the city’s architectural treasures being levelled by bombs, their contents were safely stored and many of the wonderful landmarks have been painstakingly restored to their former glory, including the spectacular Frauenkirche, one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Europe, with a striking alter reassembled from nearly 2,000 fragments. We also see Zwinger Palace, primarily a lavish royal party palace, and the grand Semper Opera House, which hosted premiers of famous works by Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. The Royal Palace will also be viewed, a wonderful neo-renaissance building that has been rebuilt several times, the last completed in 2013 allowing it to display countless treasures to the public again. Our cruise continues while we enjoy lunch on board, offering picturesque scenes of the Elbe Valley and the impressive Elbe Sandstone Mountains as we sail to the Czech Republic and our final destination, Decin.
Day 5 - Decin
Enjoy a full day in Decin, considered one of the most beautiful towns in the Czech Republic and ‘the gate of the north Bohemia’. A popular destination is Decin Castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the meeting of the Ploucnice and the Elbe. The castle has welcomed an impressive list of guests including Frederic Chopin, who composed the Decin Waltz here. Enter the castle to see the beautifully decorated halls and chambers, and learn amazing stories from a tour guide; or visit the wonderful Rose Garden, complimented by statues, for a rest with wonderful views of the town, the rivers and the surrounding hills.
Day 6 Decin - Prague - London
Disembark MS Johannes Brahms and transfer to Prague Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Heathrow. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
