This naval port is ideally located for discovering the ancient pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela with its famous cathedral.
Day 4 - At sea
Day 5 - Christmas Eve - Cádiz
Set at the edge of a six-mile peninsula, Cádiz is characterised by pretty white Andalusian houses and an unmissable neoclassical cathedral. Tonight you can enjoy the anticipation of Christmas with guests from Saga Pearl II, who will be invited on board for some festive fun. Late night Mass, with mince pies and mulled wine, will take place later.
Day 6 - Christmas Day - At sea
Look forward to a festive day on the ship, including lunch with all the trimmings and a very merry cocktail hour.
Day 7 - Boxing Day - Valencia
Known as the birthplace of paella and one of the trendiest cities in Europe, Valencia showcases a Gothic cathedral, the Miguelete Tower and a Gothic hall.
Day 8 - Barcelona
You’ll be at the heart of action when you berth close to Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s avant-garde shopping avenue. This bohemian city is famed for its art and architecture, flaunting names such as Picasso and Dali - and Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia is a sight not to be missed.
Day 9 - At sea
Day 10 - Livorno (Florence), Italy
A stop in Livorno puts you within easy reach of many of Tuscany’s attractions. You may take an optional excursion to wonderful Florence. A vast monument to the Renaissance, the city was turned into one of the world’s greatest treasures by artists such as Botticelli, Michelangelo and Donatello and by writers like Dante and Machiavelli.
Day 11 - Civitavecchia (Rome)
Civitavecchia is one of the world’s oldest harbours, holding several monuments to its Roman past; however it is overshadowed by Rome’s appeal. Take this opportunity to take the 47-mile journey see this great city’s landmark sites, including the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain, on an optional excursion.
Days 12-13 - New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day - Valletta, Malta
Enjoy New Year’s Eve celebrations with a cocktail party and dazzling onboard entertainment as we sail into Valletta late on day 11. We dock in time to see out the year in style, sipping champagne while watching a colourful firework display over the Grand Harbour. The following day, explore Valletta, an elegant city ‘built by gentlemen for gentlemen’.
Day 14 - At sea
Day 15 - Palma, Majorca
Majorca’s cosmopolitan capital awaits you today and you’ll find plenty here to keep you entertained. Head up to the beautiful Parc de Mar to see colourful murals by famous artist Joan Miro, take a stroll along the tree-lined promenade or explore the narrow streets of the Old Town where you’ll find Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic architecture.
Day 16 - At sea
Day 17 - Gibraltar
Tagged on to the end of Iberia, the intriguing British outpost of Gibraltar is dominated by a sandy peninsula and the stunning 1,400-feet-high limestone Rock. Climb the iconic rock or trek down to the lighthouse at Europa Point to view the merging of the Mediterranean and Atlantic and the coast of Africa, just 12 miles away.
Day 18 - At sea
Day 19 - Leixoes (Porto), Portugal
Porto is a thriving city with a beautiful UNESCO-protected centre which benefited from the wealth generated by Portugal’s maritime discoveries in the 15th and 16th centuries. Portugal’s second-largest city is renowned the world over for its fortified wine and you may be tempted to try a glass.
Days 20-21 - At sea
Day 22 Southampton
Disembark Saga Sapphire after breakfast. You will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle for the journey home.
