Halong Bay, Vietnam

Vietnam tours

From the mighty Mekong Delta in the south to spectacular Halong Bay in the north, Vietnam holidays serve up a land of mesmerising natural beauty. Ho Chi Minh City – formerly known as Saigon – offers a vivid introduction to the country’s fascinating and turbulent history, with its ornate temples and pagodas, elegant French colonial architecture and museums and memorials to the Vietnam War.

The historic coastal city of Hoi An, invites visitors to step back in time and wander around its characterful old town, which has remained largely untouched since the late 19th century. On the banks of the Perfume River, the imperial palace complex, royal mausolea and temples of Hue are among Vietnam’s most prized historic treasures. Then there’s Hanoi, the nation’s capital, a thriving cultural centre of tree-lined boulevards, colonial buildings and modern skyscrapers, and the gateway to the Gulf of Tonkin, home to the more than 2000 karst islands of Halong Bay.

Whether you’re exploring the country in depth, combining it with Cambodia, or opting for a three-week Indochina itinerary, our Vietnam tours are a sure-fire way to experience the best of the East.

Hanoi

Hanoi’s blend of temples and contemporary allures make it one of Vietnam’s most vibrant cities. Visit the serene Ngoc Son Temple, which is dedicated to Tran Hung Dao, who was a commander of the Tran dynasty in the 13th century. The temple is situated right beside a lake and, despite being on the outskirts of the city, the view makes you feel a million miles from wider civilisation. Hanoi’s Temple of Literature is a classic example of authentic Vietnamese architecture, with courtyards, gardens and ponds dotted throughout its grounds.

Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City played a significant role during the Vietnam War – artefacts and sites throughout the city, such as the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, serve as a poignant reminder of the hardships the war inflicted. The museum is the latest incarnation of the Gia Long Palace, where the former Vietnamese president Ngo Dinh Diem resided before his 1963 assassination – a prelude to the war itself. In terms of buildings, Ho Chi Minh City – and wider Vietnam – is renowned for its pagodas. The Jade Emperor Pagoda is perhaps the city’s best known. Built by Taoists, the view of its red façade’s aesthetic charms is rivalled only by that of the interior’s powerful statues.

Hoi An

Nestled on Vietnam’s coast, Hoi An made its name as a port city. These days, it’s a beguiling travel destination with trendy bars and restaurants in abundance. Its Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre with buildings dating back hundreds of years. Spend a day wandering around the canals, temples and mustard-yellow homes and shopfronts before unwinding by the seafront. The Japanese Covered Bridge, an 18th-century wooden bridge complete with symbolic carvings, is another highlight of tours to Hoi An and a token photo hotspot.

Cai Be

Rural Vietnam showcases an entirely different way of life to that of the country’s urban areas. Cai Be is a small village located in the Mekong Delta region, complete with fruit and vegetable gardens, an old colonial French church, and marketplaces which sell the local produce. On our Vietnam tours, explore the village at your leisure then take a trishaw trip through the surrounding area, uncovering the small factories which are the beating heart of inner Vietnam.

Flight time from London to Hanoi is approximately 11 hours 5 minutes.
