Succulent Kobe beef, sukiyaki and sushi all tantalise in this boisterous, earthy city. Perhaps visit Osaka Castle and Shitenno-ji Temple. Built in 593 the temple is believed to be the oldest of its kind in Japan. The temple houses six national treasures and many other items of cultural importance. There is plenty of time for you to make your explorations as we overnight in port.
Day 8 - At sea
Day 9 - Naha
Scene of one of the most bitter World War II battles in the Pacific, the isle of Okinawa is now known for its rolling green landscapes, tranquil fishing villages and temples dedicated to the gods of the sea.
Day 10 - Ishigaki Island
The balmy, subtropical climate draws countless visitors to its sandy shores, but Ishigaki offers much more than your typical island getaway. It is the cultural, political and economic centre of the Yaeyama Islands. Noted for its white-sand beaches and turquoise waters to which snorkelers flock for a glimpse of the island’s famed manta rays, Ishigaki Island offers many opportunities to commune with nature.
Day 11 - At sea
Day 12 - Jeju (Cheju) City, South Korea
Lying off the south coast of Korea, Jeju is an island most beautiful in spring, when the azalea blooms and the wooded areas display the most fascinating shades of green. Known as the ‘Island of the Gods’, it offers idyllic beaches, pine forests, waterfalls, a cloud-kissed volcano and the benign, prehistoric ‘grandfather’ statues that protect the island.
Day 13 - 14 - Incheon (Seoul) (overnight)
In 1394, royal geomancers chose the site of present-day Seoul as the new capital of the Chosen Dynasty. Today, the city is one of the great showcases of Asia. But despite Seoul’s hyper-modernism, the city offers an intriguing counterpoint between past and present. Bustling traffic speeds by quiet palace gardens while modern skyscrapers tower over century-old shrines. An overnight stay in port allows plenty of time for you to explore.
Day 15 - At sea
Day 16 - Hososhima (Miyazaki), Japan
This small harbour welcomes visitors with its traditional charms and serves as the gateway to some of the region’s most beautiful and diverse natural sites and historic attractions. The rugged beauty of the vast Nippo-Kaigan Quasi National Park offers geographically diverse vistas best viewed from the Kunimigaoka and Mt Takamori observatories.
