Day 1 London - In flight
Make your own way to London Heathrow Airport for a scheduled South African Airways flight to Cape Town via Johannesburg.
Day 2 Cape Town
Upon arrival in Cape Town, we transfer to the Cape Milner Hotel (4T). The rest of your day is at leisure, with the city within easy access, plus the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and pristine white beaches just a little further. We convene to take dinner together at the hotel.
Day 3 Cape Peninsula
Today is filled with a captivating tour of the Cape Peninsula. Our adventure starts with a drive along False Bay, one of its most tranquil and picturesque stretches of coastline, to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. The variety of wildlife, amongst the spectacular native flora, includes zebra, ostrich and baboon. We travel down to Cape Point, the stunning, rugged peninsula with an old lighthouse, which we reach on a scenic ride aboard a funicular known as the Flying Dutchman. The views from the summit are beautiful. We then drive to Simon’s Town to spend time on spectacular Boulders Beach, the beautiful sandy shore where over 2000 endangered African Penguins live. After spending time observing these little birds, we return to Cape Town via Chapman’s Peak, a rocky coastal roadway with wonderful views of the rugged shore and the Atlantic Ocean, where whales and dolphins may be spotted playing.
Day 4 Cape Town
Today is at leisure to explore the Cape. Maybe take an open top bus to iconic Table Mountain or Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world, where you may wish to take a guided walk or follow the Tree Canopy Walkway for amazing views. Or you may choose to find your way to Robben Island; used as a hospital for socially unacceptable groups, as a military base and, most infamously, as the maximum security prison which became such a huge symbol in the fight against oppression and racism.
Day 5 Cape Town - Hermanus
This morning we drive to the beautiful village of Franschhoek. This French settlement in the Cape Winelands is a gastronomic haven, surrounded by vine-covered hills. Its tree-lined streets are filled with wonderful art galleries and antique shops. After time to explore the village and take lunch at leisure, we visit a local vineyard to taste its delicious produce, and then continue to Hermanus and our hotel, Misty Waves (4T). Within just a few steps of the hotel, you can find stunning cliff paths and the historic Hermanus Village centre, with a variety of restaurants to choose from for dinner this evening.
Day 6 Hermanus
Today is at leisure to explore Hermanus and its spectacular surroundings. Take the cliff path to New Harbour or Grotto Beach, an 18km expanse of beautiful sand in a gorgeous location, or head to one of the town’s markets where you can find homemade products and sample excellent food with Hermanuspietersfontein's unmistakable wines. A number of excursions may be available from your hotel.
Day 7 Hermanus
Enjoy a second day in Hermanus at your leisure, or choose to take an optional whale watching excursion. These beautiful shores are considered one of the world’s best places to go in search of the mighty Southern Right Whales, which come here to breed and rear their young every year. A specialist guide will join you on a purpose-built catamaran, to answer your questions on these ‘gentle giants’.
Day 8 Hermanus - Cape Town - Johannesburg - Pilanesberg - Black Rhino Game Reserve
Today we transfer to Cape Town for a flight to Johannesburg. On arrival we continue to the Black Rhino private Game Reserve, on the edge of the vast Pilanesberg National Park. We stay at the Black Rhino Game Lodge (4T), on the northern slopes of the Pilanesberg Mountains, an area that is malaria free. Overlooking a busy watering hole, you may observe some local wildlife while you relax at the lodge, including elephants and birds. We take our first game drive today.
Day 9 Black Rhino Game Reserve
Spend today with your camera and binoculars at hand as we explore Black Rhino Game Reserve on a morning and afternoon safari. With a varied landscape of rolling hills, grassland plains and forests, a wide variety of wildlife may be spotted - elephant, black rhino, white rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard inhabit this area, as well as many bird and reptile species. Our morning safari starts early, in anticipation of sunrise, to watch the park come to life. We break for time at leisure before our afternoon game drive, which coincides with sunset.
Day 10 Black Rhino Game Reserve
We have a second day full of opportunities to spot native animals, including the big five, as we embark on two more game drives.
Day 11 Pilanesberg - Johannesburg - In flight
Later today, we transfer to Johannesburg Airport for a direct, scheduled South African Airways flight to London.
Day 12 London
Upon arrival at London Heathrow Airport, you are free to make your own way home.
